Extreme Couponing

I've watched that show a lot, and let me tell you, I have some major respect for those women (and men!) Stockpiling their house for pennies? Amazing. I don't think I could ever get THAT into it, but once I get my own house and need to do my own grocery shopping... you best believe coupons are going to be my best friend!!0

Here's a great place to get started:

This show is pretty interesting. The work these women put in to support their families is amazing! I also love that some of them even donate some of the food to local shelters. The only thing that sucks is that most of the deals aren't on very nutritional foods. It's mostly stuff like pop, chips and cookie. It is pretty interesting though.0

Thanks for the website Kel, I'll definitely check it out later and let ya know what I find.
Kristy, yea I figured it would be mostly bad food, but I thought maybe I could find some deals on other stuff I need, like laundry detergent, bath stuff, etc.0 -
I wouldn't consider myself extreme but by couponing for cleaning supplies, laundry soap and toiletries I can use the money I save on those items to boost up my food budget and buy better meats, more produce, etc; There are deals out there on healthy foods, you just have to watch for them.0

I think it is awesome how these woman save money for their families but they put alot of time and effort into it. I am not sure I want to spend that much time on coupons but i would like to clip and few and save some $0

I have been couponing since February of this year, it has helped me so much.. I have actually saved over $2,000.00 and only bought the things that we would use. for the past 2 months I have been living out of my pantry because I am saving for my trip to NYC in two weeks, YAY0

Well I am a couponer, and I have seen the show. The show is not very real. Stores are very strick with coupon policies. You can save from 50%~70% off ur grocery bill. Here are some grest websites thekrazycouponlady.com, southernsavers.com. Have fun!0

This show makes me sad b/c I am an extreme sale-lover but in Canada there is no such thing as doubling up coupon deals, store points/dollars and coupons cannot be scanned, the cashier has to read the fine print of each coupon to make sure you bought the right product :sad:0

the show has them do exterme hauls, most of them say it is the biggest they have ever done. The key is the doubling coupons. I only have a Fred Meyer and they do not double the coupons. After watching the show I looked for some coupons and have found quite a few I can use, ones for almond milk, string cheese, soup, protein bars, and all sorts of house hold stuff. I understand those that have large familys and give stuff away, but there are several ladies that would be much better off health wise without it.0

I have seen the show and while I do not extreme coupon, it did inspire me to clip coupons to save some money and I use a few of the tips. I buy one paper each week and I clip for about an hour if that each week between the coupons in our weekly circulars and the sunday paper. I clip, but only for things I know I will use (I pass on most of the junky ones) and also for toiletries, hair dye, and cleaning products. Started in June and I get at least one good deal each week, sometimes more that I can use. On average I save an extra 5-25 dollars per week on my grocery bill thanks to coupons. I do not stockpile much since I have limited cabinet space. Looking into clipping some of the coupons I currently don't clip though, so that I can put my saving money to a good cause and donate food.0

afullcup.com is a good place for finding stuff in your area. Also grocerysmarts.com has deals sorted by region.0

Thanks for all the help guys! I can't wait to check out the deals0

Is it cheaper to go to a place like Sam's or Costco than it is to clip coupons?0
-
I did a price comparison on Costco and found it was better for some stuff not all. i got into couponing from this show and have saved significantly. The most i've saved so far is $60 on a grocery bill. Last night I went to CVS and between coupons and extra care bucks I paid $2 for $18 worth of shampoo and conditioner (love buy one get one coupons!). I have started a little stockpile and really like having it but personally I think extreme couponing is just an organized version of hoarding.0

I agree, some people go a bit overboard, but it makes for good TV lol. I am planning on going to Sam's this weekend, but I don't know if it would be worth it. The coupons I've seen online are pretty good, I am surprised at how many good deals are out there.0 -
I have watched. I have great respect for these people however it is not for me. I hate looking for clothes at TJMaxx I am certainly not going to look on the internet for coupons. To each his own.0

i ave a sams membership, but i can get some tings cheaper using coupons elsewhere. target does one manufacturers coupon and one store coupon combined, yu can get some great deals that way, if you have a target in your area0 -
Couponing a great way to stretch a budget, but I would take “Extreme Couponing” with a grain of salt. There was an article in our paper recently on that show -- it is defiantly not real even if they call it reality. The producers get stores to basically ignore their own coupon policies all for the sake of the show's publicity. This can include doubling coupons, or taking coupons written for one product for another product, or taking several items when the coupon is only written for one per purchase. A number of the stores interviewed for the article have stated they were sorry they ever participated as the local publicity was not good when it was found that they had treated the show’s participants differently from regular customers.0

Is it cheaper to go to a place like Sam's or Costco than it is to clip coupons?
NO! Costco never, ever has better prices on toilet paper, milk, bread, pop - the basics are all cheaper at Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart. Its for people who buy processed food in bulk and meats and the produce is overpriced as well.0 -
In my area, it would be impossible to do what they do on that show! We have one store that will double coupons and it will only be up to a .50 cent one! This particular store also has the highest prices in town, so anything saved by using coupons would be offset by that. I don't know of any store that would double a .75 cent coupon for instance! I think that this show is just done for the drama and it would be literally impossible for most people to accomplish what these people supposedly do! Some of the people I have seen on this show break every coupon and store policy imagineable! There are some stores that are now limiting the number of coupons that can be used on one product because of this show! I'm not saying that you can't save money with coupons, because I use them and save money all the time, but come on; $1,000 worth of groceries for $25?!! It anin't gonna happen where I come from!0

I have a friend who does it. Her and her husband and two kids (family of 4) spend only 280 a month. It's kinda nuts. That said, I'm not sure the food they are buying is very quality.0

I love that show! In order to save the way they do you really have to tailor all your meals to the coupons that you get. Also if you watch the show alot of things that they buy alot of you want really use everyday. I print coupons off websites like grocery coupon network.com, coupons.com, and shop at home.com. I also get coupons out of my sunday paper, the best one usually comes at the beginning of the month. Also check your grocery website for additional coupons and go to some of your favorite products website and sign up for them to send you coupons in the mail. I dont know about saving as much as they do on that show but you can save a few dollars and sometimes even get some stuff for free.0

Do you guys have 100% money back on first purchase or 100% money back if not satisfied bargains?
Last year I joined a forum that was tracking those and spent a lot of time hunting bargains in various shops, cutting out bar codes and sending them to the manufacturers to get my money back. While it was very interesting for laundry/beauty/cleaning products, food consisted mostly of sweets/chocolates/sauces...
It was fun while it lasted, though. I took it as a hobby! Then I grew bored and found another obsession (I have the attention span of a fruit fly)0 -

I'm a couponer. I get the sunday paper, and print online coupons.. but to be honest. You only need so much stuff. I keep about a year's worth of shampoo, about six tubes of toothpaste in my stockpile cupboard, etc. I find coupons for healthy products, such as produce, milk, and meats are usually very rare. To get the best deals on these items you have to keep an eye on the grocery store circulars and find the rock bottom price and buy accordingly. I have a mexican market not far from me that sells produce at least 50% cheaper than the big chain stores. For all the other items, you wait for a sale to use your "hopefully" high-value coupon, or play the drugstore game for +UPs, Extracare bucks or Register Rewards.
I could go on and on.. It's a fun hobby, but extreme couponing has made it hard for regular coupon clippers to get the deals they used to. The shelves tend to clear out on the first day. I recommend finding a coupon blog in your area or state. That's how I started out.0 -
I definatly understand living on a budget, there have been times I didnt have a job and we ate just as cheap as we possibly could, our health suffered we didnt feel as good and put on weight, but we ate and that was what was important then, HOWEVER now that I can afford food I dont shortcut my own health by buying the cheapest lowest quality food available, all of the food Ive seen on that show has very low quality ingredients and as someone mentioned earlier is not nutritious, so my view is if youre strapped for money yea definatly go for it, youll save money, however if you have money for cable tv or other luxuries put your health first and buy good food to fuel your body0

yes if you can find an ethnic market they usually have very cheap produce, a good option also0 -
I do some couponing and have bought stuff like 6 toothpastes for 1 buck, 6 boxes of kleenex for 2 bucks, etc. I coupon at Walgreens and get my stuff there. Like others said, get Sunday paper, cut out coupons.
Like others I haven't bought deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste in months. When I find a good deal I make sure to buy as much as possible (without spending that much) to last me as long as possible.
This is a great website and I recommend it for starters.
