Hi, Im new ( of course) trying to lose about 50 lbs. Any tips would be appreciated, but I sooo cannot do fad diets. Thanks.

Slow and steady wins the race. My biggest tip would be that if you feel overwhelmed try to do one thing at a time. Maybe start with portion control, then add in trying to make better choices, then slowly add in excercise. Just hang in there!0

understanding that the mental part of this journey can often be tougher than the physical part. given this, I recommend the will power exercise in my blog below. it will give you a leg up for that time when things start feeling tough and you question your will to continue.
outside of that, I recommend logging all of your food, trying to reduce processed foods, eat some veggies everyday, focus on lean proteins....0 -

This. I also bought a food scale and use it everyday. It helps with portion control.
Educate yourself on healthy eating. There are so many sites where you can get healthy recipes and tips.
Lower carb breads like pepperidge farm light style bread, mission low carb tortilla and thomas's sahara mini pita's are great for sandwiches. Whole wheat pasta, whole grain rice 2 oz portion. Lots of fresh Veggies. Right portions of fruits.
Watch the fast and processed foods. Get your calories from food and drink a lot of water. Track sodium.

EXERSICE is key,be honest on the diary yes even if you are naughty...and don't think of it as 50lb to loose look at it as 5 x 10lb ...way more manageable!!
and add lots of active friends too..
