Is TurboJam pretty much the same as TaeBo?

I am looking at the previews for turbojam and a lot the moves look just like my Billy Blanks TaeBo tapes. I don't need turbojam if I have those taebo tapes do I?

Similar but different. Depending on the intensity you are looking for you may want to look at TurboFire (Same creator of TJ Chalene Johnson) but a much more intense workout. Let me know if you want to see a video link of it. I've been doing it for a few years via a "turbokick" format. Excellent Cardio Burn!0

I think with Turbo Jam and Turbo Fire by Chalene Johnson the difference is great music. She is an awesome instructor like Billy Blanks, but her energy and music mixes are terrific. If you're looking for a new kick boxing challenge I would suggest Turbo Fire. Hers a little explanation of both programs:
Turbo Jam is a lot like TurboKick, but it is less intense. Turbo Jam also has a place for beginners to get started. Chalene calls this the “on ramp”. There is a entry level DVD that a total newbie can watch and learn all the different moves used in TurboJam. For people new to the program, they can do this workout over and over again until they have mastered the moves and they will get in shape at the same time. Chalene calls it, “learn and burn”. It’s a program that anyone at any level of fitness can start and also has plenty of challenging workouts to keep the seasoned exerciser engaged, pushing hard and having fun.
Turbo Fire is the next step in the evolution of this series. Where Turbo Jam has lots of kick boxing moves and some serious choreography, Turbo Fire is more of a athletic style of drill workouts. Turbo Fire will push you to your limits and then push some more. Chalene out this workout together based on the HIIT principle, High Intensity Interval Training. HIIT will push you hard for one full minute and then back off a little to allow you recover and then repeat.
Turbo Fire also includes long strenuous cardio workouts for the cardio junkies out there. In addition, there are also sculpting workouts, so you are getting full body strengthening and conditioning. The combination of these workouts is a plateau busting workout that will be lots of fun. The concept of one minute of intensity followed by a rest before the next round is not only a challenge, but feels possible. This workout should prove to be extremely popular with a wide range of fitness minded folks.
Chalene sums it all up by suggesting that if your new to the turbo family of workouts it might be best to begin with the Turbo Jam workout as the best place to start. It combines lots of fun kickboxing and dance moves and gives the beginner a great place to start. If you have already mastered Turbo Jam and are looking for the next wave of intensity, you might want to step up to Turbo Fire. Turbo Fire is designed to go beyond what you thought was possible and makes it fun while you push further.

I haven't done TurboJam, but I do TurboFire which is like TJ. I've done TaeBo. You're right, they are very similar in the fact that they are both cardio kickboxing routines. With that said, I find TurboFire to be just way more fun and more "dancey." I'm not sure what it is, maybe the music, maybe the trainer.0

It's been many many years since I've dont TaeBo, but if I remember it's not the same. There are some of the same kicking and punching, but the routines are very different. I think TaeBo was more repetitive, just doing the punches and kicks pretty much in one spot. TurboJam has more variety and good music so it's more fun.0

I have done both and they are similar in some ways... but I prefer Turbo Jam / Turbo Fire much more. With TaeBo... I would get a little bored during the workout... with Turbo the music keeps me going and it's more "fun" with dancing as well.0

The moves and such are similar, but I can tell you from experience, that I burn a lot more calories doing Turbo Jam than I do with Tae Bo. (ie 60 minutes of Tae Bo burns around 400 calories, 60 minutes of Turbo Jam burns 500+):bigsmile:0

The difference to me is the *fun factor*!
TJ has the music that makes you want to keep moving...and before you know it, the workout is over. With TaeBo, it's just straight drills...no fun (for me, that is) and I'm just waiting for it to end.0 -

By intense do you mean more high impact? My knees are kind of bad from doing 30ds, so now I am looking for something intense but without jumping. I have been doing Leslie Sansone walking like 3+miles a day followed by a short mat pilates session that is mostly core/ab work. I just don't feel like the fat is melting off as quickly as when I was doing the shred Anyway I read that TJ has a modified person in their videoss right?0 -
