I am not real big on cardio but know its needed to show the muscles I have hidden. Being a former ball player, my body just can not take weight lifting combined with an Insanity or p90x type regime. I participated in a SPIN class and was amazed about how much sweat , heart rate and cals burned. Has anyone has great success with just doing SPIN. The good bikes cost allot . Before I make the plunge, I wanted to know of any others success with spin?

I haven't owned my own bike because I really enjoy the competitive nature of the classes. I have had success on a couple of different levels. Through attending Spin Classes I burned fat and increased muscle endurance which helped me to successfully place first in a Sprint Traithalon. I use Spin classes to cross train to avoid injuries or to add cardio when I have knee or tendon injuries. You can tweak your routine to ensure that you aren't stressing your injury unlike with running.0

I think most of the burn from Spin classes is the social aspect of keeping up with everyone else.
Doing at home might not create the same situation.0 -

I was going to buy two (wife and I). However, I block out everyone when in spin and listen to my own music. But they have some good Interactive DVD's out there. I follow the body for like concept - 20 min every other day - HIT style in any cardio I do . thanks for info.... In the classes I took.... Most people bailed out at 15 min... SO really it was no incentive to do the full 50... But when I did---- It felt great... Minus the but BURN0 -

I don't own a spin bike but I take classes a few times a week at the gym. Different instructors with different styles. I have gained a lot of strength and burn up a lot of calories. The majority of the weight that I have been losing is due to spin classes.
I am like you and I get into a 'zone' when I spin and dont really pay attention to what anyone else around me is doing. I seem to get my highest calorie burns when I am in that zone (confirmed by my HRM). There are a lot of regulars that come to spin classes and we do get the occasional newbie who will give up and drop out before class is over.0 -
I don't own a spin bike, but I have taken classes. I also will go into the spin room and use the bikes when I need a change of pace to my workout. It's a great workout. I have created playlists on my ipod that I use for my individual workouts. I did a lot individual rides when I was training for a spring tri because I needed to be able to control the types of spinning I was doing. Some classes are taught by people who cycle and I find those to be the best workout. We will be doing things that make sense on a bike (climbing hills, long flat road, sprints, etc.) I don't like the instructors who add a bunch of stuff that you would never think of doing on a bike on the road (bicep curls, pushups on the handle bars) No one flaps their arms like a chicken when they go for a ride on the road. I lift weights for that kind of stuff. I wouldn't be in a spin class for that!0

I LOVE spinning. Seriously dude, nothing I've done kicks your butt like it. Unfortunately since I no longer belong to a gym I don't get to do it anymore but would go back in a heartbeat if I could. We have a spin bike in the gym at work but doing it on my own just isn't the same. I like having the instructor there to keep me honest.0
