Calorie goals and plateaus

At some point in the past few weeks I transitioned from struggling to stay under my calorie goal to struggling to eat enough to get close to my calorie goal. At the same time, my weight has plateaued. I'm glad my body has adjusted to eating less and better, but I'm confused why I'm wanting fewer calories at the same time that my body has stopped losing weight (and maybe even put a pound or two back on...). Any advice? Is this one of those "you must eat your exercise calories or you won't lose weight" situations?
