weight loss zone versus cardio zone

So when I workout on the machines at the gym they have the little graph that tells you where your heart rate should be for weight loss. What is up with that? Can someone please explain to me the advantages to keeping your heart rated down in the "weight loss" zone as opposed to working out in the "cardio" zone?

You burn more by working out longer with less effort or less weight. If you want to gain muscle you put in more effort (going faster thus raising your heart rate) or use a heavier weight. So your heart rate should be increased from a resting heart rate but should not be wild, telling you that you are putting in too much effort and that you will last longer (kind of a stamina thing), and burn more, if you slow down a bit.0
