So, I started the 30 Day Shred about 7 days ago and I haven't budged an ounce. I've heard that other people actually gain weight at the beginning - it does make sense because you do more strength training than cardio. But, I've also done a "sugar purge" for 2 weeks now and still haven't budged . . . I do feel better and sweets aren't as enticing as they used to be. I just haven't been making progress and this "sugar purge" was to help get off this stupid plateau . . . ugh.

  • whats a sugar purge?

ANd don't expect to be gaining a huge amount of muscle or something from 30 day shred xD Putting on muscle usually takes a calorie surplus and takes a lot longer then 7 days.

I started the 30 day shred with a large group on Sunday. I haven't noticed any real changes yet but it is true about some people do gain because it is strength. the 30 day shred might also not be enough of a calorie burn for you. Try mixing in some yoga or walking/running with it as well to give you that extra boost. Even though it is a hard 20 minute work out it sometimes isn't enough.

Hang in there... if you keep doing the right things long enough, you WILL get results. That is just a fact. Sometimes it takes our bodies a while to transition from one phase to another, and that's most likely all this is... just a time of transition. Bravo to you for your dedication, though! A sugar purge would take a lot of discipline, so you must have a very strong will, and I'm so happy you're feeling better already from it. That is a victory, too, you know!

I just finished day 8, level 2 of the shred. I've gained a pound in the whole process while netting no more than 1200 in a day (usually net between 900-1100). I know the muscle gain isn't realistic, but I've heard so many women talking about not losing weight on this (but toning up). My measurements haven't changed, but my legs look more toned /shrug.
  • 7 days is awesome!!!. If you stick to it and really track you calories, you will start to see results soon. Remember your body doesnt want to change so it will adapt and find a way to stay the same, so just keep doing what your doing and the pounds will start to melt away.

Everyone is different but for me I didn't see results for about a month then things became stressful and I hit a plateau for a little bit but I still kept moving and although the scale is discouraging you still know that you are improving. Also it could be inches you are losing and lbs come later because the scale for me wasn't moving but the inches were astronomical. Don't get discouraged you can do it!!!

Seen this alot, dont forget to to EAT your extra calories, your body needs to the food and if you robe it of the basics it will slow your metabolism to protect you, that means hard times loosing the extra pounds. MFP already has a normal calorie deficit built in to it to make sure you loose the weight in a healthy way, so as you tally your excercise, eat accordingly to boost you metabolism.

A fire cannot burn without a log.

I'm not eating sugar, a.k.a candies, sweets, dessert (I still allow myself juice and sugar from "good" foods). I started it because my work CONSTANTLY has chocolates, sugary pastries, cookies etc. and if I indulge it's a fast slide into calorie overages.

I really don't disagree, but I've been going months eating between 1200-1500 net calories a day, sometimes more, with no results. Trying to switch things up and see if this works. If it's a no-go once I'm done the month, I'll try something else.
