So I'm at a net of like 25 calories today, and I'm having trouble with the thought that I should eat over 1000 more calories today to make my net 1200. I don't know what to do, I feel like i wont lose weight if i eat my exercise calroies back. thoughts?

I never eat my exercise calories back, and while that helped me lose 90lbs... I have been stuck here for almost a year. I would say write today off and try to get closer to your calorie goals tomorrow.

If you're hungry then eat some or all of the calories, if not, take them as a bonus. I'm not having trouble steadily losing my goal pounds per week using this process.

You don't always have to eat your exercise calories back but it really isn't good to have your Net that low. Once in a while won't hurt you, but if it's an every day thing it will cause your metabolism to slow down to adjust to the little bit of fuel you've left it. That will make it harder for you to lose weight and you could start to see lack of energy, moodiness, health problems, and hair loss.

I'd suggest eating something, but just enough that you feel you'll be sated overnight. Being so low with net calories isn't good if you do it every day, but should be fine for one day. In fact, I've seen recommendations that eating way over your calories very occasionally can actually boost losing weight, and I'm expecting the same is true with eating way under.

Make sure you're well hydrated if you've burned so much.
  • My roommate brought me chips... not the best choice but I haven't had chips in over a month. Hopefully I'll be ok, although I went over on sodium

Just drink lots of water tomorrow, and an extra glass tonight to counter the sodium. It's called zig-zagging, eating all or close to all calories one day, and the next not so many. I've done it and I like it, but I don't always do it intentionally. If I have a huge exercise day, I won't be able to eat everything back. Just do well on your proteins tomorrow also, so you don't feel sluggish if your body is reeling from low intake today. Good luck, you'll be fine.
  • really should be eating those back. You are going to be losing a lot of muscle if you dont.
