why is it that when you first start deciding to loose weight you get a number in your head that you cant wait to see flash up on the scale but when you get there you think hmmm i could do with loosing a few more pounds. I havw just dropped 20lbs plus and thought i would be happy with that and now im thinking of loosing another 20lbs where does it end!!!!! anybody else feel similar

I know what you mean! It can get addictive to lose weight, but you do have to be careful that you are still at a healthy body weight...I've had a few friends drop such drastic amounts of weight but their relationship with food is so damaged...like they were addicted to eating but they manage to kick that habit only to become addicted to eating too little and exercising too much...!!

I don't think it is a problem unless it becomes unhealthy :) xx

This may be an emotional issue rather than one of weight. For example, "I will be happy when i get to 120llbs" but then you get to 120llbs and you dont't get happy.

Look at your reasoning behind wanting to lose more weight and make sure you are on the right track for it.
  • I totally get where you are coming from!! I lost 20 and made it to 124lbs but now...I'm thinking I'd love to get to 115lb...just approx. 10 more pounds...but if I get there, will I be satisfied?

I'm happy with where I am now. I can wear all my old clothes again. I don't feel enormous anymore. I'm healthy and strong again. But yes...I'd still like to lose a bit more of vanity weight.

I think it can be very addictive to lose weight, but more important to sustain it with healthy lifestyle. I try not to let the scale dictate how I feel that day, but many days I am unsuccessful. I try to keep in mind how much progress has already been made and if I make more, that is great. If not, I am relatively happy/satisfied where I am now.

ok honestly I only clicked his because of the title....

But yes I do feel like this....when I hit my goal I am sure I will keep going... I could Prolly lose another 40 after goal but we will see...I LOVE MY CURVES
  • I have a goal weight, just because I feel like I need some sort of measuring stick for my progress. I really don't care if I ever get there, though.

I used to obsess over the number on the scale, and I was never happy. Now I am trying to focus on how I feel- when I look in the mirror, in my clothes, my confidence day-to-day, etc... If I can be happy before reaching my goal weight- awesome. As long as my weight is healthy, the number is minor.

I've wondered the same thing, but I have so far to go, I'm sure I will be ready to work on maintenance by the time I get there! I've also noticed that my exercise goals keep getting bigger too, which I think is healthier (maybe?). For example, I just finished a 5k training program, now I'm wanting to begin a 10k program. So maybe start setting fitness goals for yourself instead of weight loss goals?
