Hello all! So recently I started the c25k & signed up for a run at the end of January with my best friend. I am excited, but YIKES am I nervous as well. Anywho-- I was wanted some reviews from people here on Mfp about c25k. I read a lot of outside reviews and people said they weren't losing weight while doing it. I have started losing weight while doing it, so I am wondering if the reviews I read where people said they aren't losing weight were people who weren't very overweight. I am obese, my bmi is about 35, maybe a little less and I think that may be why I am losing weight by it.

well, its exercise so of course youre going to lose weight. i did the program, ran a 5K and lost weight ... so those who arent losing it doesnt make sense to me - unless they are already physically fit and dont need to lose weight0

I started C25K on June 1, and I didn't really lose any weight until around mid-July, which is when I also changed my eating habits. Since then I have lost 15.5 lbs.
Good luck! Running is great exercise.0 -
I thought it was a great program! I lost fat while doing it but I also started gaining muscles around my quads and booty, mostly.0

I've lost 47lbs doing it; that w/ watching what I'm eating. I'm currently supposed to be on the start of week 6 but haven't had the energy for it this week due to that witch who brings the monthly gift.
I love the program in general though; It's honestly helped me get to where I am today.
I think yes, if those that aren't losing don't have much to lose, then they're probably building more muscle than anything else, but people like me.. yeah I'm gonna lose.0 -
i don't know about the loosing weight as i'm stuck on a plataux at the mo...

I have been doing C25K for about five weeks now. I can't say it has contributed much to my weight loss, after all, it is only about half an hour long, and the first few weeks don't burn that many calories as there is more walking than running involved. That being said, I have noticed a tremendous increase in my endurance and stamina during my workouts. My legs are getting toned and strong. I use a heart rate monitor and have noticed my burns are getting lower as my body adapts and my heart rate takes longer to rise. This is a good thing in my mind, as it indicates to me I am getting fitter by the day. Hope this helps.0

I started this last week although have been rubbish at going to the gym this week for various (not good enough) reasons. I think running is an excellent way to loose weight and my health freak friends agree!
The beginning is a lot of walking but I think once you get to the more running stage weight should start to drop off. Especially if you keep it up and increase the length of time you run for. At the moment running for 30 minutes seems very daunting and very far off in the future!!0 -
Not sure why some people are saying they didn't lose weight, but you keep at it and I'm sure you'll see results!0

What JodaNord is kinda what I figured, a lot of people who don't have much to lose or who are already fit may be doing it and probably won't lose weight, but people who are like me (obese) are going to lose weight doing it. I'm still huffing and puffing and I'm on the 2nd week. My friend and I chose the wrong time to start doing it (winter is COMING!!!)0

Thanks everyone, I am losing weight, but I was just wondering if other people are and why people are saying they aren't! I read a lot of reviews last night and slightly got discouraged. There were a lot of people bashing the c25k.0

I did the C25k and have actually started the Bridge to 10k program with a desire to go into half marathon training at this point. My weight loss increased once I added running. It really started coming off at week 5 or so,which is actually when you incorporate more running than walking. I went from not being able to run for 1 minute to running for 45 minutes now Also, I want to add that sometimes I got discouraged because it wasn't coming off fast enough, but I noticed that my body "shifted" I wouldn't lose any weight on the scale, but my pants felt better! Make sure you are eatting enough as well! Good luck! It's a GREAAAT program!0

March of 2010 I started the C25K program..I started out at 185 and I lost 35 lbs.I ended up running 3 ..5ks that year.I have only ran 1 this year, but I had some health issues that slowed me down.I am now back on track and plan to move up next year to run a 10k.Maybe even a half marathon,I don't think I can move farther than that...
My husband started running also in Aug.of 2010 and he lost 30 lbs. He ran his first marathon this past weekend.I think the C25k is a great program..Keep it up and you will reach your goal...0 -
I did the program, lost 13 pounds along the way and ran my first 5K last Saturday!! It's a great program and if you do it, you'll get results!!!0
