Hi guys.

So, I've had my bodybugg since August and am not completely in love with it like most everyone else yet. I *want* to be but I'm having trouble getting past how many calories it's telling me I'm burning. Now, I'm one to eat every last calorie allotted to me because food...yum...but when it tells me I burned 200-300 calories more than my heart rate monitor (this is during exercise only and I *really* don't think I exert myself all that much during exercise....I mainly walk albeit sometimes fast depending on the song on my mp3 player but my heart rate is usually under 135) I'm kinda wary.

Before getting the bodybugg, I used a heart rate monitor with a strap for exercise and wore/still wear a fitbit for daily calories. Now, I never really paid attention to the fitbit numbers until I got the bodybugg because I thought from the beginning the bodybugg was overestimating my calories. I ended up going by the fitbit numbers and started losing a full lb (more or less) a week. This was also after lowering my calories to 1265 per day on here because it took me a year to lose 10 lbs by netting my bmr instead of the 1200 MFP wanted me to net and I'm allergic to the magic 1200 calories number.

So now that that's out of the way, my questions are:

Do you also own a fitbit and/or heart rate monitor?

How do the fitbit/heart rate monitor calories compare to your bodybugg calories? Bodybugg higher? Lower?

How active are you during the day/night when not exercising? (Not sure what I hope to get from that but you never know. )

Does the bodybugg say you expend more calories in the heat and do you pay attention to it and still eat those back (I have a theory)?

I think that's it. Thanks for any help!

How active are you during the day/night when not exercising? (Not sure what I hope to get from that but you never know. ) Completely sedentary

Does the bodybugg say you expend more calories in the heat and do you pay attention to it and still eat those back (I have a theory)? Yes, but I also weighed a lot more when it was hotter out.

I posted this this other day: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/370182-so-the-bodybugg-definitely-works
  • I am no expert on bodybuggs but here is my experience. Also, I have actually stopped using my bodybugg. The yearly fees to use the bodybugg seemed excessive and when I compared the burn to my HRM, they were close enough that I felt I did not need to monitor that closely. I only use the HRM during exercise and with MFP have been able to maintain a steady loss.

Do you also own a fitbit and/or heart rate monitor? Fitbit no, HRM yes

How do the fitbit/heart rate monitor calories compare to your bodybugg calories? Bodybugg higher? Lower? My Bodybugg calories were actually less when I exercised than the HRM. I am not sure but thought that it had to do with the bodybugg somehow calculating out my BMR.

How active are you during the day/night when not exercising? (Not sure what I hope to get from that but you never know. ) - At night, my bodybugg was a fairly steady burn, right around 1.5 to 2 cal/min which was lower than when I was awake/sitting.

Does the bodybugg say you expend more calories in the heat and do you pay attention to it and still eat those back (I have a theory)? - I'm not sure that it shows burning more calories in the heat. It is supposed to be reading external temp and your body temp so it shouldn't read different.

That's interesting about your friend using your bodybugg because I actually tweaked my numbers on the bodybugg website to match the 1265 I used on here instead of using the 1400 they gave me thinking it would lower my numbers overall. I'm pretty sure it hasn't.

I think that about the fitbit actually especially since my bodybugg shows a higher calorie burn.

Hah! Yeah, that was my obvious theory. That if you're outside in the heat, the bodybugg will read the extra sweat as more calories burned and if they count or not because you're just going to replenish the sweat with the first glass of water you drink anyway.
