Hello Forums,
I just recently started MFP. I have always been a large man and never actively thought about my size but on a recent trip to the doctor for a migraine they weighed me and I clocked in at 506...the doctor, my family, no one I know estimates me at 506 so I must wear it well being 6'4" but the number scared me when I played football I was a healthy 350 lbs(used to run 3 miles a day at that weight...). I have two children that haven't left me a ton of time to exercise. I started looking into how many calories were in the fast food we were eating and was shocked. My blood pressure is creeping but not high yet my ekg comes back fine but still 500+ lbs is dangerous.
So I need to get healthy for me and my kids, its time to get back in football shape.
I am now a huge fan of Yoplait, Progresso Soup, and bonesless skinless chicken.
Any tips for battling those first few weeks of cravings would be welcomed.
Also I can't find a scale outside of a hospital that will even weigh me...MFP is helping alot but I really would like to help encourage myself with numbers...I know tracking is making me feel so much more in control of my eating, but still crave the accomplishment of dropping pounds.

livingxl.com has a few scales. Walmart and Target have some that you can order on-line. I was in the same boat, I found one but it took some searching.

To battle cravings, don't deprive yourself of foods you like, just eat less of them and eat homemade versions where you know what the ingredients are, rather than the fast food versions that are crammed with crap. That's where counting your calories and measuring your portions comes in--and that's numbers you can track, too.
As for numbers, what about measurements? I know you're a guy, but still, tracking inches rather than pounds might be a way to start until you get down to a weight that typical scales can measure. It's still numbers, and it's also a more realistic measure of how you're losing fat and building muscle than a scale would be. I don't know if that would be satisfying for you, but it's a thought.0
