This video offers an insight on the Calories in and calories out theory. I don't think it applies to everyone. I don't think it's that simple. But he does cite 3 key points:

1.) Eat more frequently with more meals that are fiber based.
2.) More short intense efficient workout.
3.) Calories in and out? Not so much, Factor in stress and sleep as they impact hormones.

Any thoughts on the video and topic? I'm no expert but I would burn calories in find myself plateau'ing and stuck. I think my sleep and stress drastically have affected my weight struggles. And even in a perfect world of no stress and adequate sleep I'm finding it hard to figure out how calories in and calories out will just be the simple magic answer.

I think that the author would probably present a better product if he organized his thoughts a bit better. It seemed to be a bit of a random blurb about metaboliceffect™ and how they do things. Also, without watching it again, it seemed that he was saying "It's not just about calories" but then also saying "you still need a deficit".

I'm pleased that he didn't claim that frequent smaller meals boost metabolism, but I also don't think he justified explicity why it's advantageous to do so.

In short, I got a lot of "here's things we do" without a good explanation of why.

But, I'm very ADD and perhaps I missed his points.

    Thanks for sharing.

I would looooooooooove for stress and sleep to be the answer to my plateau. That actually would make a fair amount of sense in my situation since I've been plateauing since I moved to a new state and started a new job. Thanks for posting this, excellent reminder!

    Simple magic answer? It's not!
Check out this awesome blog: http://danceswithfat.wordpress.com/2011/06/02 /calories-incalories-out-science-says-no/

Everyone's metabolism is different. Calories in / calories out does work for some people, and people like it because it seems like a simple solution that they can wrap their head around. But "simple" rarely equals "reality." The reality is that our bodies are WAY more complex than that. Like you said, stress and lack of sleep, as well as other factors, can cause chemical imbalances in our bodies, which affect our hormones, which affect how efficiently our bodies use & store energy.

I was never able to lose weight, my whole life, despite doing everything "right." Until I found a doctor who didn't just dismiss me as lazy or undisciplined, and did some metabolism tests, and got me eating the right combinations of nutrients for my body. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all formula or plan, everyone just has to figure out what will work for their particular needs. Which I understand is frustrating for people who just want to be told "Here's the plan, I guarantee it will work."

    Great video, thanks for sharing!
