Crunches - Why do they hurt?

So I've been doing the Turbo Fire 10 minute abs class for about 2 months now, 3 days a week. The thing I don't understand is, slowly over time it seems that the crunches hurt more and more every time I do them... :( Is this normal? What can I do to make it hurt less? I'm never ever sore afterward, it just has been hurting when I'm actually doing them more and more... any help or advice greatly appreciated here! I love my flat tummy, but the pain sucks.

If it hurts to do them you may have a strain. Rest it a week or two then resume. If there is still pain, then get it looked at.

    Where is the pain specifically?

Right on top of my stomach... I don't know the muscles specifically by name, but I guess they would be the very top 4 abs, sometimes my lower stomach hurts but not as much as the upper. I do have a rib out on my right side, but it's been out for over a month and doesn't even bother me... I just don't have the money to go to the chiropractor and get it adjusted right now.

    I would take ninerbuff's advice.

    Good luck!
