I have the same problem - when we travel to see my son at college for football games every other week, we are generally eating out at least two meals. Just try to pick the healthiest options and take along some healthy snacks.

If you are at someone's house (when you can't pick the menu), just watch portion size.
  • I always have this problem! Especially cause I'm 21 and it's football season so even if I'm not eating a ton I make those calories up by drinking beer :( I try to make sure I hit the gym every morning before doing anything else though and pre-logging my meals for the day so it's easier for me to stay on track. I also try and eat smaller meals on the weekends so in case I do "snack" with friends I have a little bit of extra leeway.

I have the opposite problem. I tend to want to follow co-workers out to lunch. All I can tell you is to enter food BEFORE you eat it. That way you can try to make better choices.

I have been here a year and Im pretty convinced that if I got weekends nailed down I would be much farther than I am now! I dont really know where to start! This summer has been bad bad bad! All last winter I did really well though. My trick was to exercise like 1 hour -1.5 hours burn anywhere from 600-900 calories and then try my best to choose wisely off menus and drink water between drinks. I lost it this summer when we were on vacations or on all day type outings. All I can offer is plan for exercise before you go and do something and be conscious of what you are putting in your mouth.

I have the same problem. I want to go out tonight and party but all those calories, uggg :grumble: But what's the point in getting healthy and looking good if we can't go out and enjoy ourselves? It's a struggle for me too. In the past I have skipped my food and had some wine instead. Not healthy I know but I don't want to gain. Decisions, decisions.

I find it helps to really plan out the weekend. For instance, I knew yesterday I was going out for dinner and it was going to be a lot of extra calories, so I got in a solid 2 hours at the gym. Calories weren't an issue.

I think a lot of people struggle with empty calories from alcohol on the weekends. Again, planning it out helps. Either avoid those situations/temptations completely, or find an alternative, i.e. Miller 64 vs regular beer, etc.

If you are going out to eat, try splitting an entree with someone. My wife and I will sometimes split an app and an entree to control calories, and when we do that we feel great at the end of the meal. Most restaurant serving sizes are way too much.

Good luck. It takes planning, compromise, and dedication to break the bad habits so many of us have formed on the weekends over many years of indulgence. There is no silver bullet for it, it just takes discipline and time.

It takes a lot of bad health decisions outweighing the good ones to gain weight. Likewise, it takes a lot of good health decisions outweighing bad ones to lose weight and improve health. Do not get discouraged. This is part of the journey. Nobody is going to make the best decisions 100% of the time. But we can strive for steady improvement over time. Celebrate the good, don't beat yourself up over the bad.
