A Tad Confused....

So I weighed 97 pounds about a week and a half ago ( recovering from anorexia ) and just finished my second week of P90X ( no, I'm not trying to lose weight. I'm trying to gain muscle ). I weighed myself this morning and weigh 99 pounds! I know that's still a low weight for me but I just don't know if it's muscle or fat! It scares me a little. For the past 2 weeks I've been eating 50% protein, 30% carbs, and 20% fat and have been sometimes 200 calories under my daily goal ( I'm working on upping my caloric intake ). I also take creatine supplements every morning to help gain muscle. So one would find it hard to believe that I've gained a whopping 2 lbs of fat but isn't it also far fetched to have gained a whole 2 lbs of muscle too? I'm just kind of confused and gaining weight is still a very scary thing for me. I guess I'm looking for any thoughts, feedback, or support....Thanks )

I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to tell you that it's incredible that you've taken back control of your life from your eating disorder. You are such an inspiration and I hope the road to recovery is as smooth as can be for you.
Good Luck0 -
It's most likely water. Gaining either fat or muscle that quickly is unlikely.0

^^^This!
To the OP- I think it's probably a combination of fat, muscle, and water gains but either way, I would not be concerned about the gain. I know that is much easier said than done, especially when recovering from an eating disorder, but you are doing an amazing thing for your health and life!0 -
I find that my weight tends to fluctuate with my cycles. Even when I was very thin, I went up and down by 7 pounds every month. Is it possible that this could be the root of your gain? Anyway, I wouldn't consider two pounds in either direction terribly troubling if I were you as long as you are making progress over the long haul toward your goal.0

You should monitor your % body fat more than your weight.
I have a scale that gives that info,, but its a cheap scale and isn't consistent.
So spend some$4 and get aa scale that gives you the info you want.0 -
I agree with everyone else. You are doing a wonderful job taking back your life. My trainer almost died 3 times from this and she did the same thing you are doing. It took her figuring out how her body reacted to foods. She works out and has a high protein diet for building lean muscle. You are on the right path. Keep it up. My opinion is to stay off the scale. Weight is just a number. Work out and eat healthy and just listen to your body. Lots of lean protein and veggies. You got this. Good luck.0

I don't think 2 pounds is anything to worry about. Like a previous poster said, weight fluctuates constantly. It could be water weight too. Kudos to you for recovering, I admire you for taking control. Welcome to MFP, we are happy to have you!0

Thanks everyone for your support. You all made me feel a lot more at ease and I have decided to stay off the damn scale! Lol.0

Good for you. Scales are an EVIL EVIL invention. lol I am totally addicted to mine. lol0

It likely is not muscle, it takes a long time to gain muscle weight. It could be the normal fluctuation of your body weight. But keep on keeping on.0

Just remember that when you workout..you cause trauma to your body...good trauma obviously, but to recover your body holds on to fluid and tries to repair the muscles and bring the body back to normal. dont fret, its good. I remember after I ran the marathon, I thought I would have lost 6 lbs..I actually gained weight b/c my body was under stress/trauma. Two days later i lost 3-4 lbs. Hang in there and weight yourself 1-2 times a week at most on the same day and same time!
good for you for getting healthy!0 -

This is the best idea. Stay off the scale, the doc is the only one who needs to know what you weigh.
I'm so proud of you!0 -
Creatine holds water into muscle. Its VERY common to "gain" 3-5 pounds when one takes creatine. Its actually water you are seeing, as creatine works by drawing water into the muscle to help enhance recovery and repair. My husband and I both experienced this when we started to take creatine.
There are some versions that do this "less". But I just accepted that is normal for this supplement - and don't stress over it.
Remember, at the end of the day it is how you look, feel, and measure in clothing/tape measure that matters - NOT scale numbers alone. Even when gaining weight, and/or building muscle.
Also - when you first start an intense work out program - P90X for example - you are stressing your muscle, tearing down tissue, and rebuilding tissue. The body heals this "damage/stress" by drawing water to the stressed tissue areas. Increasing circulation and blood flow in the worked areas. Again more water weight - all normal , all very good.
I agree with above posters, do inch measurements NOT scale weight only.
On P90X I often got through stretches where I lose nothing on the scale for 30 days or so, but I do change in inches.
You are doing great!!!! Keep up the good work, and focus on whats important.0 -
Just want to say Congratulations on taking control of your life!0

Hey there, I just want to say you are so pretty and with a little more weight whether it be muscle or fat on you, you are going to be a knockout. Keep up the great work! You and your family are worth all of the effort. Glad you stepped up to the plate and took control, you should be so proud!0

Any weight is a good weight right now. It's a combination but based on your history and your caloric intake its a good way to build. if you are not taking whey protein you should. Good luck with everything!0
