What's Your Weekly Loss? For Those with Little to Lose

Hi All
When I joined MFP in early September, I had already lost 10 pounds and was on a mission to lose my final 10. Since I've been tracking through this site, I've been eating at/under my allotted 1200 calories per day, I've been exercising 6 times per week, and I've only dipped into my extra exercise calories a handful of times. My weight is in the "normal" BMI range, so I'm not overweight-- but I can definitely stand to lose the weight I'm after. :-)
In spite of my efforts, I'm only losing an average of 0.57 pounds per week. I was hoping to lose a full pound per week, but that's not been the case.
I know that slow and steady is the best way to lose and keep it off, and I know weight tends to come off slower the less you have to lose... BUT... I'd still like to benchmark my progress against others who are also looking to lose around 10 pounds or so.
I'm curious.... if you are looking to lose just 10-20 pounds, and your weight is already in the "normal" BMI range, is your weight coming off slowly as well? If you've been able to speed it up, how have you done so? I don't think I should dip much below 1200 calories, so the only solution I can see is to log more time exercising.
I appreciate any input....

I am 5 feet tall, I currently weigh 126.5, and my goal is 115. I'm losing about a half a pound per week. I workout 5-6 days a week and I eat back all of my exercise calories. My calorie goal is set at 1200/day but with my exercise calories and 300 calories that I give myself a day for breastfeeding, most days I eat 1900-2000 calories. I'm really happy just to be losing weight and the slow rate of weight loss doesn't really bother me.

The closer you are to your goals (and the leaner you become), the less you can lose per week. I have 9 lb left and I have set myself up for 0.5 lb per week. It will not come off faster. I recommend you increase your calories to a 0.5 lb per week goal and well as eat back your exercise calories (very important: your body can not longer handle a large deficit). Feel free to add me. I expect to hit my goals by March.0

Yes, it has been slower for me too since I reached my original goal weight, and at a healthy BMI. I have 20 more pounds I want to lose now, and I'm losing .5-1lb a week if I'm lucky.0

Hi! I have a normal BMI before, MFP I was at 137 and I joined in September as well and then I was down to 126, right now my goal is 120 and I am at 122.2 as of this morning. The weight coming off has been slow for me, the majority of the time I am at or below my calorie goal (you can view my diary if you add me as a friend) I work out 6 days a week but still lose very slowly, it sucks that it's taking so long to lose the last few pounds but i'm losing and not gaining so I guess I just have to stick with the plan and be happy that i'm getting closer to my goal each week. Anywhere from zero to half a pound a week. I think that's typical when you're close to goal. Expecting more than a pound a week will only drive you crazy, trust me! I've only lost 5 lbs the last three months.0

Same problem here. I have lost 10 pounds since the summer, and this last stretch is much harder to lose. I no longer aim for a pound a week, more like .50 or .75. I also find I notice small fluctuations on the scale now, more than before anyways.0

hi i have about 15 pounds to loose and my average loss is 2pounds a week i lost 14 pounds before i came on here and i kept loosing 2 putting on 2 since i came on here i have lost 4 pounds i stayed same last week i was wandering if you were eating enough as they say if you dont eat enough you wont loose eat more veg and fruit filling things that are low cal eggs brown rice etc also i only exercise 3 times aweek somtimes 4 if feel up to it remember your body needs to repair also i dont eat back my exercise cals as you do exercise to burn calories and fat thats what helps you loose the weight as well i only eat some back at weekends if going out or a special treat as we do deserve them i hope this info helps a bit for you0

I'm 5'9", and down to 134....I HAVE been as low as 130 before (and no, I didn't look emaciated, just fit!), but I can't seem to get back down to that weight for the life of me! I've been stuck at 134 for literally over 2 months....I run 4 x per week, and cross train 2 x per week (I'm training for a marathon), I have my goal set at 0.5 lbs. per week, I always net a MINIMUM of 1,200 calories (but never go over maintenance), and I can't seem to lose these last pounds for the life of me! It really is more difficult once your body decides that it's had enough of the weight loss. I can't complain, because I'm healthier than I've ever been, BUT it's frustrating! I feel your pain!0

I have been losing approx. 1 lb every 10 days. If you've been losing 0.57 lb per week, you're doing quite well. It's difficult to go faster than that when you are at a healthy BMI.
I think it's important to not eat less than your BMR (~1350 for me). I also eat back most (if not all) of my exercise calories. If you are eating only 1200 calories and then exercising as well, your net calories are probably too low, especially since you are already at a healthy BMI. That could slow your weight loss. I know it's hard to believe, but many people on MFP have written about their experiences with that.0 -
I was very lucky and lost one pound per week, each week, even as I got close to goal. I ate most of my structured exercise calories but not calories from increased activity from things like hauling mulch and other yardwork. I started at 143 and set goal at 125. After goal I continued to drop and am now at 118 (I am 48 y/o and 5/3" tall). Iv'e maintained within 2 pounds of that since July. I still log, still eat my exercise calories and am still eating at slightly less than what MFP sets for me for maintenance.
I know I may be the exception to the rule about how its slow going the closer you get to goal but I did it. I changed my exercise routine every 4 weeks so my body was always doing something different. I tried to eat different foods each day and not get into a food rut (which tends to happen to me!). I also have my activity level set to "lightly active" despite the fact that I am actually VERY active. I think that gives me a little wiggle room.

Hi-when I had almost 30lbs to lose I was losing about 1.5 lbs per week but once I got within 10lbs of my goal I only dropped about .5 lb per week.I think that's good because I hope it will help me maintain. I even had some 0 weight loss weeks which is ok. I only have .4 left to lose but I have a feeling it will take another week or two. The less to lose, the slower it will be. Good luck 7and I'm also like you in that once I lost about10lbs I was in normal range.0

When I joined MFP I was at 125 lbs and am now down to 108. For the past 2 months, I've only been losing like .2 so actually everyone on here is doing way better than i am ! haha .. The less weight you have to lose, the slower it's going to be. Sometimes it is good to throw your body off a little bit and eat things you wouldnt normally eat. As long as you go right back on schedule and continue working out, you'll see some more weight come off. alos, you can't make yourself a slave to the scale. I might only be losing LESS than a half a pound, but inches are coming off. That's a real true way to tell your progress. Don't worry about the numbers on the scale so much, you're doing everything the right way and the healthy way ! keep it up!0

I am trying to lose a total of 18 pounds although I was already in the "normal" BMI range. (At the very top of the range though.) So far I have lost 2 pounds in 2 weeks, but I won't be surprised if that starts to slow down now.0

I'm 5'8" and at 138lbs. I was at "normal" BMI at 147lbs when I started MFP at the beginning of August. I lost those 9 pounds in about 8 weeks and have been holding steady since. I wasn't really looking to lose pounds. At first I set my goal to .5lbs per week with a sedentary activity level. MFP set my calorie goal at 1490. I ate back every bit of my exercise calories. I lost 4-5lbs pretty quickly. I changed my goal to eat at maintenance about a month into this. My maintenance calorie goal is 1740 and I still eat back every exercise calorie. I continued to lose a few more pounds and now I am holding steady at 138.0

I'm 5'3 I started on August 1st at 134 pounds. I'm 121.4 right now. I have actually gained .4 pounds and have not lost ANYTHING in 6 weeks. I eat 1200 cals a day and I'm shreddin it. my goal is 110, ULTIMATE GOAL 105.
Also my body fat is 28%0
