I've been battling with a bum arm for a while now. I have been in physical therapy for about a month. The physical therapist thinks that I have a trapped nerve between my shoulder and neck. He wants me to see a neurosurgeon or neurologist. My primary physican wants me to have an EMG done. I'm really nervous. Has anyone had one done? Can you tell me what it is like?
Thanks in advance!

I just had an EMG last month, it is not very comfortable but the test will be a very good tool for them to help you. I had neck surgery 3 years ago and was having some issues again, I had an MRI, that showed I have 2 bulging discs again, I went through PT for 6 weeks, and the PT thought I should have an EMG because he wasnt convinced that my symptoms were not all related to my neck. The EMG showed them that I had carpal tunnel, I just had surgery so I am hoping that was the trouble and I do not need another neck surgery.
The EMG is an electric shock test, if you ever have known anyone on a farm and maybe touched an electric fence it is a little shock like that, felt like that, then I had a second part too that involved tiny needles like acupunture ones, I was surprised of how little I felt the needles. The test took maybe an hour for me, they tested my one arm and neck and back. If you have any more questions, feel free to message me. So far for me my PT's idea of having the test done has been a good thing for me, I do not want another neck surgery unless it is absolutely needed. Good Luck.
