Hello everyone! I just signed on! I call myself a "professional" dieter. I have battled the bulge my whole life and am hoping this is the last time! I have been on every diet that has been out there. Thousands of dollars later, the yo-yo dieting has made weight loss even harder.....then...menopause hit! Any women out there that have gone through it, can understand what I am talking about. All of a sudden, there is fat where there wasn't fat before, I'm tired, I'm grouchy, and depressed because of the weight gain (again). I'm hoping for support and understanding here and get ready for questions! Glad to be here. Will be happier if I can lose!

You are soooo in the right place. The message that I hear consistently is to make life style changes ... not diet. Bottom line is to burn more calories than you consume. As a woman approaching menopause, I'm trying to get under control before it is outta control. A couple of years ago the body started changing, then all of sudden the pounds were there .. and lots of them.

This has been a great place to keep track of both the "ins" and the "outs" ... what I really love, is being able to also track certain substances, ie. protein or calcium or potassium or fats or sugars ... etc. Little extras like that keep me chugging along with the food and exercise diary.

Not to mention ... the great bunch of folks here always willing to listen and answer questions and cheer you on!

Do not overwhelm yourself with a diet ... just start tracking what you eat and what you do, then make small changes, one at a time, until they become habits .. then add another ... and another ... and another .. Before you know it ... you are looking and feeling better inside and out. Promise. I watch it happen here every day and am totally inspired to keep working at it myself.

    Welcome and Good luck!

Thank you for the "welcome". I already have a question. Do you fill out your food diary the day before, or do you just enter everything you have eaten for the day as you eat? I have a feeling I will be spending alot of time here trying to figure things out!

I used to use paper logs, which was effective, but the accountability here I think will be more useful, as well as the understanding and encouragement. I now use the smart phone app. It has a bar code scanner that speeds up entry. And the food database is amazing! If I am disciplined in the food entry then I am able to see the way my day is going sooner. Of course, ...I'm not always so disciplined. However I bet that if you arent using a smart phone that you could paper log and then add to the website in the evening. Having someone be able to see your log is beneficial motivation. Have a great day!
