  • dempsters whole grain bread in the 12 grain version : 120 Cals per slice... it's pretty norm for bread to be like that... even the healthy stuff.

really? :embarassed: i guess I dont really eat bread like that often. ughhh. next time half a slice will make me happy enough. eeek
  • here's a tip though that you may not have thought of... when you eat breads like sourdough and white enriched and things like that they are really easy for your body to break down which means you burn less calories digesting them. Since most breads are similar in calories it makes sense to eat more whole breads like brown, whole wheat and whole grain because it takes your body more effort to digest them therefor you burn more cals in the process. Food for thought.

Sourdough is the exception to that Matty- sourdough actually has a low glycemic index for white bread because of the fermentation it is better for you than most "wheat breads" which really are glorified white breads. Make sure the labels say whole wheat and do not list enriched wheat flour anywhere or it's just brown tinted white bread. Sourdough is digested more slowly than other breads so it puts out less sugar in your blood stream at once. I was surprised to find that Jasmine Rice also was lower glycemic than brown. Sometimes things surprise you.

  • Im aware of the enriched flour issue which is why I only eat whole breads, I wasn't aware of the facts on sourdough bread but for me it just doesn't have enough whole natural ingredients to be on my list. I like breads that are whole grain when I eat them which are usually once a day if that and if Im going to be taking in 120 cals per slice it's gotta be something my body is going to work for to digest. Interesting about the sourdough though.
  • I guess I was just trying to point out that 120 cals per slice of bread is pretty normal. Bread is a killer

i dind't know either of those things guys. thanks

as a general rule i dont really eat sliced bread often and the sourdough ended up with dinner only because it was on the reduced bakery shelf (whole loaf for 35 cents)

if i do eat bread it's usually mathews 9 grain nut bread which is not 120 calories a slice but it's also half the size

oh or ezekiel bread... that is way yummy
