Do you ever need a break from weight loss?

I need a break from losing weight. It gets to the point where I start to love exercise so much, I start to overdo it, instead of sticking to the alotted time for it I give myself for it every week. And I get tired of counting calories to the point where I get burnt out. I'm only going to take a break for about a week.

Anyone else feel they need to do this every once in a while?

Nope. Too much risk if I stop I won't restart.

No, I always love being active and I just love the fact I'm getting results.

Hi Happyheart15, how long do you workout and how many days a week do you workout? Some people don't like taking rest days, but your body do need rest days. I aim for 1 to 2 days a week to rest from exercising.

If you feel you need to take a week off from exercising, do it. When you decide you want to jump back on the exercising boat, do so and do so with baby steps.

Don't focus on losing weight, focus on being healthy.

I can totally relate--I just ran my first half marathon a couple weeks ago and needed to take a lot of rest time both before and after the event...I also got kinda lazy with my eating habits. Went on maintenance for a few weeks while getting back into my running routine. Trying to find a balance between pushing myself and giving my body time to heal...it's a hard thing to learn.

I think that is a slippery slope to travel. Unless you are WELL entrenched and focused on meeting your goals. I took a break from logging calories and logging exercise do to taking 24 hour care of my 82 year old dad after he broke his shoulder, but aside from that I would not even consider doing it! I thought I could stop a few years ago because it was time consuming, but after awhile the pounds came back one by one, the exercise fell off and next thing you know my pants were too tight and I only had one raggedy pair to wear for a solid year until I could find the gumption to start again! I will NEVER stop the OCD of being accountable for my weight loss, maintenance and exercise! EVER! I've gone from a size 16 to a 6 and am knocking on size 4 and I NEVER EVER want to be bigger than a size 8 EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER!!!!!

    Good luck to you!!

I feel like that once in awhile and do take a break but only for one or two days at the most.

I'm on a break right now. Haven't been logging as I should, and haven't been doing my workouts (I've also been sick for the past week) but I have been staying very active and not just sitting on my butt all day eating Bon bons. I think I've been slacking because even tho I have 20 more pounds I would like to lose, I'm very happy about the way I look now. If it takes me another year to lose the last 20 then that's fine by me. As long as I'm not gaining I'm ok.

I think it depends on the person. I've been active and at a healthy weight for most of my life and mainly just trying to lose my pregnancy weight cause I thought I could eat whatever I wanted and boy was I wrong. Some people need to keep track of everything because of poor habits

I love your attitude and I think you're right! If I don't log in and am not fully aware of every food I have, I start on a really slippery slope that goes to a lot of bad food that gets me depressed etc.

Why not just take a break for the weekend and then start again on Monday? That way you get a break but, not too long so that you aren't going to fall out of your routine. If you go longer than that, you may not get back into the routine. Good luck!

I did yesterday. I would hate to think where I finished but that is because of the beer, wine, vodka and other stuff.....Hung over but trying to get back on track today.

Seriously, just about EVERYONE falls off the wagon at some point. This is a life-change for us, not a "just do it until we hit our goal of "x" amount of pounds" thing. Therefore, every time we fall off the wagon, we just have to get right back on. If not, Why did we waste all that time and HARD WORK to start with? I took a four day break awhile back. Not necessarily by choice but it happened. I'm totally back in the saddle and rockin' on now. You didn't get fat overnight and you aren't going to suffer major setbacks if you take a couple days off unless you start doing it often and that is an entirely different thing. The cool thing about this website is that it is made up of over 200,000 people from all over the world that have the exact same goal in mind as YOU! Some of us are still in the fat-loss phase and some are in the lifestyle maintenance/muscle increase phase. Keep logging on and participating in the message boards. That's why we are all here, to work together to learn/teach more and have support in attaining our individual, personal goals. Don't beat yourself up and don't lose sight of your "mindset for life."

I can't> I was on Jenny Craig for 3 years and lost 70 lb. I got bored of there food and stuff. I said I'll take a week off. I never went back and sadly gained back like 55lb in a matter of like 5 months. I will never do that again. I lost all that work and maybe I would be at my goal by now if I didn't.

Yeah, I started feeling a bit burned out by it all, so I started taking every Friday off. On Friday, I eat what I want, don't log it and don't exercise. That way I get a break and it doesn't throw a monkey wrench into everything. Even doing this, I'm still losing. Lost 3 lbs this week and 2 last week.

Thanks everyone. I had started doing an hour and a half of exercise most days, and for me, that's not good. If I exercise too much, it makes me binge. So I need to go back to the 45 minutes a day that was working well for me. And I will give myself a day off maybe. Or if not a day off, just very light exercise on one day a week.

Some people can't handle a break, but I can, especially if I start moving into unhealthy habits. I need that break to recharge and reevaluate.

Also, I'm going to stop getting on the scale every day. It's messing with my head. I think I will get on the scale once or twice a month. As long as I am following my plan, I know I will lose weight. I think I will go by the way my clothes fit instead.
