I can fit three hands around my waist (my hands are not long) yet I'm classed as obsese (BMI 30). I fit into size 8 US, 12 UK tops and dresses. I don't understand how that works. How is BMI measured?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Well your measurements tell me you are a bit top heavy. If you google it, there are many articles involving waist to hip ratio. I dont know about chest to hip, actually.
How tall are you? IF you are 5'2 then size 4 is reasonable. If you are 5'7 then maybe you are over reaching and you are really HOT right now!!
Weight and BMI are numbers which apply to a broad spectrum of ppl. My friend is 130 at 5'2 but wears a size 2 because she is muscle, baby!!
Good luck on your journey!

Hi
As the other lady says its all to do with your height. Good luck on your quest to fit into those shorts. I see you are from the UK like me. If you want a good workout to shift the weight on your legs (noticed you wanted to lose this weight on your profile) I think Mel B new dvd is great working on all those target areas. There is a ten minute session solely focusing on legs where you do exercises for a minute. For me its my tum so I have been working hard on that one :laugh:0 -
BMI = divide your weight in kgs by your height in meters squared or if you using pound , divide your weight in pounds by your height in inches squared and multiply that by 7030

I know that atheletes don't use BMI because of all that muscle it says " why aren't you DEAD yet?" remember muscle is heavier than fat.
I know that i don't have muscle. i'm 5foot one and 145 it says I'm over wieght and I know it's not wrong because I look overweight:laugh:0 -
BMI is just a ratio of height to weight so if you're muscular, pregnant (which it doesn't sound like it), or not done growing, it won't be accurate. If you're heavy-chested it won't take that into account. As long as you're healthy I wouldn't worry about it. I weigh 110 and I can't fit my hands around my waist!0

That's really odd. I weight 109 pounds, wear a uk size 6 and have a bmi of underweight. Are u sure you worked it out correctly?0

Everyone carries their weight differently. I have a 29.5in waist but my thighs are HUGE. BMI doesn't take anything like that into account.0

As everyone has said... BMI is useless... according to that chart, my personal trainer, the twig of solid muscle he is, is borderline overweight. The only way to get an actual true exact measurement of BMI is to use a water tank with a specialist and some funky measuring equipment. I'm sorry but I don't believe that one mathematical equation can give accurate answers to all the wonderful shapes and sizes we have in this world! So keep up the work that you're doing and LOVE the beautiful hour-glass shape you were given0

Ya....my BMI says I am healthy weight...the range is 125 ,169 and 205. 125 being underweight and 169 being healthy... Well..if i was "healthy" weight, I wouldnt be on this site...soo...I question it's accuracy!0

I've been so frustrated by all of this too. I'm 147-and can't move the scale down, my new size 8 jeans are now too big in the waist, but my body fat % is 30%! I'm 5.5" amd am technically obese. Why are we so hung up on those damn numbers???. I'm just going to keep plugging along and go by how my clothes feel. (Ya right):ohwell:0
