Scripture Not Allowed on Boards

Hey, all. Not posting about religion here; just bringing up message board rules and regs. :) I know a lot of newer users don't know this but posting religious comments is actually against MFP's rules.

Check it out: #13 on the rules list
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/207785-forum-rules-please-read-before-posting
That includes scripture in your signature.

P.S.: You can customize your profile with all the rad biblical quotes you want! Also, when communicating with friends on your feed and profile, you're able to chat about whatever you'd like.

:drinker:

Please refrain from replying with comments regarding religion. It'll just get your comment/the thread deleted.

I support free-speech on profiles. That's actually hugely important. I wish we were able to edit HTML like back in the beginning days of MySpace. ;D

Oh, the rules you agreed to when you signed up!! Nonsense!

Shrug...so what? This kind of rule is not unusual for website like this.

Let's not quote them or reply to them. It will just create more instances where mods have to step in.

I'm confident we can have a mature discussion about this. :)

Here's another rule that will get a thread locked if you break it.

    7) No explicit, sexual, offensive, insulting or vulgar content or language. This includes any explicit or "risque" images. The MyFitnessPal forums are rated PG-13.

I believe they will be allowed once the groups feature is here.

Can't be soon enough for me. It will cut down on the hand slapping.

Did someone do that in this thread? Or are you just adding a new point to the discussion?

I dare say 90% of the people on this website wouldn't be able to identify scripture if it weren't labeled by book, chapter, and verse. So just leave those off, and people won't be able to pretend they're offended.

Groups are going to be AWESOME!!! Hopefully there will be a way to ban users from individual groups. I can only imagine the trolling that would go on otherwise. haha

Are you a mod? Just wondering what the purpose of this post was? We already know the rules and I find it interesting that you would pick religion to point out. As mommared35 pointed out rule 7, and the other half the the rule you posted is aithiesim and polictics... (dang it, why can't I spell??)

What?? Just wanted to add my two bits...

Yep very familiar with said rule. . so if you read my profile beware it is going to be very spiritual. . Just me!

Adding another point to the discussion. There are 16 other rules, maybe others will post the other rules one at a time.

That might be true. But I don't find the scripture itself offensive (unless someone is using it to talk down to someone else). I just think it creates problems on the board because it's essentially telling people how to live their lives. And 99% of the time, it's TOTALLY unrelated to the discussion and completely unnecessary. It's an international community with so many different types of people. Just makes sense to omit it. I agree with MFP's stance.

Locking this topic as the rules are already available for everyone to read. And yes, groups are coming very soon, so stay tuned.
