Anyone on here a geocacher?
How do you log your activity as exercise?! Do you only log your walking? Hiking? or Biking time? What do you do when you do a power trail that you bike between caches and stop to walk to get the cache? Trying to figure this out!

log the sums of each. They all count.0

I geocache. I never really thought to log it though....
I probably would just log the hiking. Or you can wear a HRM while you are doing it and create a category :happy:0 -
@Alyrca I have only logged the power trail I recently did on my bike. It's an 8 mile bike trail with a cache every 1/10th of a mile. So I biked a 1/10th of a mile, got off and walked to find the cache. I rode the solid 8 miles back non stop...okay one stop to adjust my fanny pack.
If its a hike...to get the cache I just log the hiking. But the park and grabs I don't even bother with. I'm in Idaho so a lot of our caches require you to hike to get it.0 -
Hmmm.... maybe log the first 8 miles as Biking leisure, and then the ride back however was appropriate?
I wish more of our caches were hiking, but I think we have gotten most of those... lol0 -
I just log the biking or hiking time / distance I travelled under those respective categories.
I think of geocaching as hiking / biking with a purpose!0 -
I've been geocaching for 5 years now. It's a ton of fun, but I don't log it at all. Personally, I only log 'dedicated workouts' (gym, running, workout DVD). That is my preference, and don't judge what others do.
Put on a HRM and log it as hiking.0 -
@Alyrca....I will be sad when I get all the bike trails in the area bagged. I'm still a newbie cacher (110ish) so I have lots of cache to get. I guess then I'll have to start traveling to improve my stats! Sigh!!! Our valley has very limited options for new caches. Its full!
@ BerylX And yes Geocaching is definitely a great motivation for walking/hiking/biking to get a cache. I never really thought about the exercise aspect of it till I hiked up a mountain side to get some.0 -
You call that a newbie? I'm going out on my first caching expedition TOMORROW! I'm so excited, been wanting to go out all week but bad weather and early evening darkness have conspired against me. Eventually hope to go on trails and things, I was surprised to find there were so many caches in my local area (I'm in the UK, and not in a "cool" part!) Go Cachers!0

Yes I consider 164 caches a newbie when I hunt with folks have more than a 1000 caches.
We have several local cachers that are very dedicated to the sport, 2 of them are #1 and #2 in the State of Idaho, and in the top ten for the USA. My town actually has very few open spots for a geocache unless you can talk to someone who has private property. I will be putting one at my new house on the fence line since we are an "open spot"
I cache in any weather and bag many at night time. I actually like to cache at night for some of them. I also live in a relatively safe area to be out and about after dark! I would love to go across the pond to get some international caches and check out castles.
Best of Luck. What's your screen name on www.geocaching.com0 -
Hiya! My screen name is 'queenmedusa'. Went out in search of 5 caches today and came back with 2. We've had so much rain that getting to one of them would've involved walking through a lake so we're leaving that til another time. Another looked like it had been muggled (lots of beer cans :explode: ) and another we simply couldn't find - think we need gloves for that one! Still, quite happy with our success for a first trip. Hopefully we'll be able to venture further afield soon, neither my other half nor I drive or have bikes so most of the ones in our area are a mega-hike! Still, we're newbies and don't know any other cachers so we're happy at the moment. Looking forward to going to NYC in April and caching there, planning on leaving a cache in the Big Apple :happy:0
