anyone here from LA, California??

I'm planning to move to LA in future since i'm an aspiring filmmaker from India.
i was thinking i could join a film school dere and also work there part time... but its like a complete alien world for me.....

is there anyone who can help me a little here...... how is life dere for colg students??? which areas should i prefer to live in?? is it safe for a girl to live there alone??
cost of living etc.... and the job prospects there........

please help...!!!!! :frown:

I don't live in LA but 6-7 hours north. It would be very difficult to have a part time job and pay for housing all by yourself. Most people get roommates or look for a place that's seeking a roommate. As far as where to live, what school are you going to go to since that will determine a lot. Most of Orange County is OK to live in, but if you are going to school in LA proper, commuting is hard from Orange County. Irvine is a nice city (very clean) and I've walked around there alone plenty of times at night.

If you ever get a car, try to buy a Hearse (used because new tend to be very expensive compared to most cars). Put an urn (can be empty) in the front seat. You can leave your wallet and keys in them unlocked and no one will steal your car if you go to a very scary neighborhood (if you go to a rich or hipster neighborhood, they will probably try to befriend you). True story.

im considering UCLA and New york film academy in Universal studios.....thats in hollywood i guess.....

and yes living with roommates is way better!!!!!!

Anywhere around both schools are all very nice neighborhoods. Pretty safe, just avoid regular Hollywood, West Hollywood is nicer. If you get a job as like a coffee barrista in the really nice neighborhoods, you get good tips.
