Anyone use a George Foreman Health Grill?

Thinking about buying one as I grill a lot of my meats and fish on a griddle pan but I get a lot of smoke in my kitchen.
Are the grills easy/quick to clean?
Do they smoke a lot?
Would one be suitable to leave at work for lunches and such?
How long does it take to grill a chicken breast for example?
Thanks in advance )

Chicken takes about 8 minutes to cook0

I have one, they do smoke a fair bit, and they are hard to clean, but are quite quick, about 5 mins for a chicken breast.0

real easy to clean and quick, no smoke, depending on how browned you want your chicken, we like it brown, so we leave it on for about 10 to 15 min. Salmon and tuna is great on it, flounder falls apart, it is just too thin. But we do bocca burgers and onions besides chicken, turkey, sausages and fish and love it.0

I love mine I have even cooked slices of raw potato on it I spray with oil first and then season then when they are nearly done I add mushrooms tomatoes and a quorn fillet - I love mine0

I have a fake one that I use, and while its not a George Foreman, it is similar.
- I don't find mine easy to clean, things get stuck in the grooves. Mine was 2nd hand so some of the non stickyness has come off.
- I don't find it smokes.
- I'd consider one for work.
- I cooked a chicken schnitzel today, and it literally took all of 5 mins. I'm not sure how long a breast would take, but no more than 10. Even steak wouldn't take that long. You're cooking on both sides at once remember. This is something you dont even need to turn on until the rest of your meal is 'about done' - honestly. Stuff with bones seems to take forever.0 -
I love mine. I don't find it hard to clean, but I do it slightly different than the little book recommends. While it is still hot, right after I finish cooking, I wipe it down carefully with a wet washcloth and it comes clean very quickly and easily. I love making chicken and burgers on it!0

I have a pannini grill which I use all the time, burgers are done really quick and chicken breasts usually take about 15 - 20 mins depending on size and whether frozen or not. Sausages and bacon come out really crisp, and not at all greasy. whichever you get its well worth it as the fats not in you!0

P.S.
Its also easy to clean, damp cloth while still warm and wipe over, job done!!0 -
Turn to George and you will not regret it, a quick healthy way to cook your food. I always spray mine with low fat oil before cooking, it helps to keep it non stick. I also keep a small water spray at hand so as soon as the food is cooked and George is cooling down I give it a spray and wipe with kitchen roll, it makes it easier to clean.
I've seen grills with removable plates, but think they are the larger grills "family size"
So in 1 word - FANTASTIC!
Ive also seen the raw potato idea below and I'm going to try that one. Great idea0 -

Do you have one of the older ones with the fixed plates?
They're a sod to clean... Though I generally hang mine over the edge of the sink, while its still hot, and put water on it... It bubbles, spits and protests a little.. but it cleans it....
It's on its way out, to be fair. Some of the coatings have worn away, with useage.
It only smokes if you treat it like a "normal" ovan/grill with regards to cooking times, and leave things on it far too long. It does, however, smell a little when warming up. Im tipping thats grease on the elements.
Would I replace it? HELL YEAH!! especially now they have removable plates.
I chuck allsorts on it. Chicken, Fish, Onion, Peppers, Mushrooms.0 -
I've had mine for years and use it daily! Best birthday pressie I've ever had!!0
-
Thanks all, sounds great, so I've bought one ) Looking forward to trying it out, maybe with some homemade turkey mince burgers and such.
The saving on my gas bill should pay for it quite quickly!0 -
Interesting thread - I've just bought one myself, because of it.0

Love ours.....doesn't smoke, easy to clean - I season it with a a drop of sunflower oil on the grooves after cleaning. Never ever scrub it. Makes great toasted sandwiches as well as the usual burgers, chicken etc0
-
I enjoyed mine for myself. Family is too big now. It cooked so fast, I had to be careful not to dry the food out.0
-
Well I bought one and have used it everyday! It does dry out foods a bit, but that's fat coming out so I'm happy with that )
Cleaning isn't as easy as I had hoped, but the timer, quick cooking time. and the fact I don't have to stand over it make it more convenient than the griddle pan. I have found wiping it with a cloth when hot is best for cleaning, so I wipe mine as it's pre-heating )
I knew it would get plenty of use if I got one, and as I say, every day so far.
Best thing is fish for breakfast, or pop a chicken breast on it whilst I have breakfast and that's chicken for a salad at lunch )
Thanks all!0 -
Thinking I need to dig mine out of the closet and give it another shot! I used to use it all the time, then got tired of it. Worth a revisit!0

make sure you get the one that has removable plates so you have easy cleanup0
