(Maybe a question for the gentlemens)
I am doing ''the new rules of lifting for women'' . My calories are at maintenance and I eat my exercise calories. I eat 40/30/30. The first 6 weeks, I lost 6 inches overall and my weight stayed the same. Then the next 3 weeks, I have seen my weight up 2 pounds but my mesurements staying the same. I know that many men here are trying to gain mass then cycle to cut fat but I know nothing about that. Do you mind explaining? Do you eat more calories when you gain mass then cut calories to lose fat?
My body fat is still pretty high probably between 30 and 25% but I still want to eat enought to be able to lift heavy.

This is optimal for burning fat and maintaining muscle if under the calorie goal ---- Read into or go look at Body for Life. I dropped 50 percent fat and stayed the same weight.....

I'm simplifying here, but:
In general, bodybuilders will eat in a slight surplus for several weeks/months, followed by cut cycles where they eat at a deficit.
This method has basically been seen to be more effective then eating at maintenance and trying to accomplish both at the same time.
If you are trying to decide which path to take I would base it off of your current physique, specifically how "fat" you are/feel/can stand being.
For example (personally), I am not ready to bulk yet because I'm not lean enough and I'd like to do a long bulk cycle. When I do start bulking, I'll stop when I start to feel/look too fat, which will be in the 16%ish ballpark for me.0 -

Great Approach.....
I eat for a gain 2 weeks out of the month and the other 2 I eat at a deficit --Week 5 Maintain and Rest . But this works for me.0 -
I realise I'm not a man lol but I'm doing the bulking/cutting cycles at the moment. Basically I'm just eating above maintenance - 2800 net (my maintenance is around 2300) I'm gaining just under 1lb a week. Have gained 9lbs in just under 4lbs. BF% says its around 4lbs lean mass, 5lbs fat. (17.5 - 20% bf) Focus alot of strength training, get enough protein etc etc
After xmas I'm planning on on cutting. Will give myself a daily deficit of 200-300 to maintain as much muscle as I can while getting rid of the fat. Will probably up my protein 5% and lower fat or carbs 5%. I'm only on 30% at the moment but with 2800 that's 210g before exercise which is hard enough to get. Still focusing on strength training then to maintain muscle. Hopefully won't lose any strength or maybe increase a little like I did when losing before.0 -
Thanks for the info ~0

hummm I might look more into cutting for 2 weeks then 2 weeks surplus. Not sure yet.0
