A Cheat Meal Story

I'm training for my second marathon. For the day or two after my long runs, I've been fighting nausea & craving salt so I determined that I wasn't re-hydrating properly. Tonight, mile 17 of my 18 mile training run took me right past Burger King. At this point I was tired and hungry & fantasizing about burgers and shakes (my fantasy of choice for the end of long runs). I used to eat fast food A LOT but gradually weaned myself off when I started MFP. I haven't had BK in a long time but figuring I'd just burned about 2000 calories (according to Runkeeper) and had been craving salt, I decided to "treat" myself on my drive home. Normally when I go out to eat, especially the rare times when I have fast food, I look up my calories ahead of time (the Restaurant Nutrition app for Droids is great for this!) so I am aware of what I'm eating before I even order. Since I knew i wouldn't go over my calories, I didn't do it this time. I felt like a rebel-- eating dangerously. :) Anyhow, as I sat in my car eating my Whopper & fries, I was thinking about how much many of you would cringe at the whole scenario-- eating fast food, sitting in my car to eat, "rewarding" myself with food, etc.

I'm not going to lie-- I enjoyed every bite of it. As I ate, I thought about coming on here and posting about eating my fast food "reward meal" (I hesitate to call it a cheat meal because I didn't go over my calories) and how much I enjoyed it. So many people are quick to condemn all fast food and "junk" food. I kind of just wanted to see how many people would get judgemental at the idea of someone eating 1570 calories in one sitting and not feeling guilty or ashamed of it.

Then I got home. Within 15 minutes, I was running for the bathroom. I now feel like the lining of my stomach and intestines has been ripped to shreds.

Guess I waon't be rushing back to BK or any other fast food joint to down 1570 calories again any time soon. And I guess I'll remember WHY so many people warn against fast food and junk food. It's not just the calories-- it's the absolute havoc it wreaks on our poor digestive systems.

Lesson learned, at least for a little while.

    Feel better soon!

I had much the same experience with a KFC burger after six months of MFP :)

Geeesh, and I feel bad when I'm only supposed to eat 10 mini rice cakes and sometimes I eat 15! LOL!!!
Thanks for sharing your great story. A BK whopper, fries and choc milk shake would be sooooo good (but I won't do it!) Eat some tums and feel better tomorrow.

I allow myself a mcd's burger sometimes, and fries, but it makes me tummy hurt afterwards. I don't stop completely though. However, I have stopped eating at Cookout. THAT food had me in the bathroom all day after I got it (after months of eating healthy) and I refuse to go back. I can deal with rumbly but NOT with actual purging myself. Haha. Thanks for sharing.

I just had the same thing happen to me. I ate at Dennys but I stayed under
my cal count. When I got home the 'bubbling' started. I figure all good, maybe
my gut is starting to have problems with digesting that kind of food. So, it
will eventually keep me from eating out too much in the future. That just
makes it easier for me to lose weight. Keep up the good work!! God Bless!!
