Stomach problems may be TMI

First off i know people can't diagnose me BUT i would really like some opinions. About 3 weeks ago, i started with bad diarrhea. I get horrid stomach cramps to the point i am in tears and keeled over. When i get those pains i get urgency to have a bowel movement where it just cannot wait. I also sometimes get some nausea associated w/it. I went to my doctors a few days ago finally after pepto, tylenol, and immodium showing me not much relief. She listened to my stomach and said i had lots of noise coming from it... also she did a rectal exam and said i was so swollen there she could barely get a sample of anything... my BM have sometimes been all mucus as well.
She took blood and is testing me for celiac disease, and to just do a panel and see how my liver, kidney, blood count is, etc. I've been extremely dehydrated even though i am drinking lots of water. I also have to provide a stool sample and my dr called me and told me she wants me to go for a CT scan of my stomach. That is scheduled for tomorrow. What do they look for in a CT scan anyways?
I was thinking IBS maybe from stress of starting a new job?? Sometimes when i get nervous it gets worse....
Anyone have any idea or opinion on what may be going on?

Sounds like IBS... they do have medications for that now though! :-)
CT scans provide the doctors with an internal look at your tummy without sticking a scope down your throat.
I do wish you all the best and that you get to feeling better soon. It's not fun to be sick, especially that sick.0 -
I really think you should just be patient and see what the doctor says.0

I am thinking that I really should not have read this thread.

Yep, IBS. I have that as well.. I really need to watch what I eat and deal with my stress. If I don't go to the bathroom for days then I know it is coming. But really diet makes all the difference.0

Sounds like gluten intolerance. Cut out gluten while you wait for the test results. I'm totally gluten/soy/dairy free, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Also, check celiac.com for good info and people are aren't squeamish.0 -
Yes, IBS could def be an option, celiac disease also makes sense, lactose intolerance (even developed later in life), and the list goes on. The CT will let them look at your internal organs to see if there is any swelling, blockages, bleeding, etc without being invasive from up top, or down below if you know what I mean. Sometimes, if there is an indication from the CT, they may have to use a scope to go in for a better look though (just to prepare you). There are some great medications and lifestyle changes that can be made to help with many GI problems though so don't worry too much. I'm assuming that you are logging your intake on here, you may want to print out a weeks worth of diaries and take them into your doc when you go in next time to let them look over it, they may see something that makes sense. I wish you the best, dealing with GI problems can be such a pain and inconvenience. The most important thing is not to give up, you know your body, and your vigilance and awareness of symptoms/routines/etc can really help your doc diagnose you. Keep us posted!0

first of all sorry to hear about your problem. Your doctor wanted a CT probably to see if there is any inflammation in your intestines. I think irritable bowel syndrome would be on top of my list. Honestly though, you shouldn't look for causes yourself, because it would only make you worried and stressed. whatever it is, with all the test you got, your doctor should be able to get you on something and stop these symptoms. just to make sure you don't worry about it, I really don't think its anything bad, in a week you won't even remember you had these symptoms.
make sure to keep up and listen to your physician.0 -
A gal in one of my chat groups had almost identical symptoms and it was a Crohn's disease flare-up. Hopefully that's not what it is though.0

i have crohn's disease... sounds familiar. it's all about figuring out what you can and can't eat for me. some with more severe cases need meds though. so, see what the dr. says.
good luck!0 -
Updating to let you all know my test for Celiac Disease came back Negative. My liver function tests are still slightly elevated as well... but i also had my gallbladder out in May of this year.0
