Right, weighted myself Fri am and was 53.2kg....went out Sat night, had a fair bit to drink and a bit of crappy food at the end. Yesterday, had my normal brekkie, protein shake then had a full 3 course lunch. I would'nt say the food i had was awful...prawns and avocado to start with some mayo it came in, puff pastry beef pie with mash and veg, a little ice cream and a glass of red. That was my food for the whole day and didn't actually eat agin, as it was so filling.

I expected some weight gain...but that is a huge jump!? I'm back to routine today and hitting the gym later. But really....this much gain in 48 hours!?

Any explanations!?

That honestly doesn't seem like that big of a jump to me, considering the type of food you ate. How much sodium total? That could be the cause from water retention and if so, will drop off easily as long as you stay hydrated and keep your sodium levels normal. :)

Eh. Happens when you overindulge. Give it a couple days. Did you eat enough extra calories to gain 1.8 kg? If not, then it's not fat.

That's why you shouldn't weigh yourself every day. After a blow out, your weight will jump up like crazy. I call it shock weight  The best thing to do is get back on track and cut back a little every day with a little more exercise and weigh yourself once a week. You might still have gained but it won't be anything like that amount.

Sat day until i went out was very very good...like a normal diet day. It all started when i started drinking. Quite a lot of vodka and diet cokes and couple of wines. I'm thinking the fast food was prob saturated in salt as well as the pie and mash. I never add salt to my food when i cook so it could be a trigger. I woke up massively dehydrated yesterday and honestly thinking about it, didn't consume barely any of the normal 2litres of water i normally do.

Thanks chick...i think psychologically it's nice to 'vent' how i feel on here and just get some back up on what i suppose i really already know myself.

If i'm honest i had such an amazing weeked. I'm not really here to lose much weight...just a couple of pounds and really get ideas for how to incorporate small lifestyle changes. I really don't want it to take over my life negatively.

or one might argue that's why you should weigh every day, so you know what your body is doing, how weight fluctuated and you can then put this kind of gain in perspective. As a daily weighed, had the op's experience happened to me, i would have shrugged, said 'water weight. Too much booze salt and fat' and gone back to my usual, healthy patterns.

Yes I can certainly see the logic behind that too. I have been told all my life "YOU SHOULD ONLY WEIGH ONCE A WEEK!!!!!" I got to thinking "what's the harm as long as you only take notice of it once a week?" I tried it for a couple of weeks and it was really interesting how it fluctuated day by day. However, I did find that when it was still showing as 2lb up on Wednesday even though I'd been good as gold, I started panicking a bit and worrying about it. Thursday came and it was still 2lb up. By now I'm thinking about falling face first into a chocolate cake because "what's the point?" right? Friday (my usual weigh day) came and I had maintained from the week before. So all that stressing was for nothing.

I think the lesson I learned was that, for me, at least, it's a lot better to just weigh once a week. My poor old heart can't take the drama

debs, I think it's definitely one of those 'whatever works for you' thing. I know people who weigh once a month, once every few months, and that works for them. It wouldn't work for me.

Oh absolutely. Totally agree. I couldn't leave it for a month. Too much damage can be done if you're doing something wrong.
Weighing every day is only a problem if you're going to really stress and worry about the fluctuations I would imagine. I do worry so would prefer to do it on a weekly basis. But that doesn't stop me having a sneaky peek a couple of times during that week.
