Protein shake advice

Hi guys,
I am just wondering if any of you have any advice on protein shakes and their effectiveness on weight loss. I was in our local health shop with my other half (who was in there to buy protein shakes-he is into weights and running and trying to build muscle) and I noticed a product called Sculptress by Maxitone. There was a plan to follow but not in depth-just a guide really.
I do Jazzercise (aerobic type work out) two-three times a week and I’m starting to do some daily bits-a few crunches and some arm and leg exercises for toning (nothing close to hardcore).
Can this really help weightloss or should I save myself £25 per week?
