What Are Some Tricks To Stop You From Weighing

I know you're not supposed to weigh yourself everyday, and I know you're supposed to do it once a week, but i have a really hard time walking by the scale and not wanting to step on it. Just this permanant pull tward the scale. Any tricks to not look at the scaled everyday would help, because it gets really discouraging to only see a few ounces here and there but not actual change.

put it out of sight, on top of a closet or somewhere that you have to take out a stepstool to reach it.

Hide it from yourself and only bring it out once a week. Maybe if it's not in sight you won't be tempted.

I don't have a scale at home. The one I use is at the gym. That helps because the only day I workout in the morning is my day off on Thursday, so that's my weigh-in day. The other days are after work and lots of food and water, so I'm not tempted to weigh in those days.

I left my scales at my parents house so i could only weigh in when i went to visit them.

I exercise first thing most week day mornings which means drinking water. Since I only like to weigh in as soon as possible after getting out bed, but without eating or drinking anything, it keeps me off the scales until the weekends.

I dont know. I weigh myself everyday or everyother day. I stopped weighing myself everytday and gained 55 pounds. lol. For me it keeps me in check to weigh myself. It doesn't hurt me it helps. I know it is recommended not to way but it is what works for me.

I don't have a trick. I just made this my goal to not weigh until weigh in day. Everyday I don't step on the scale I write it down and that has been going on for a few weeks. It helps me to stay focused on other things and not the scale so much.
  • Well.. Personally I do weigh in just about every day. I do this first thing in the morning, after I've gone to the bathroom, but done nothing else.

People have tried to tell me that it's not ok to weigh every day and everything, but I'm sort of graph-obsessed and I like to see my weight trend over time. I know that weight can vary a lot day to day just depending on what you've eaten, etc... but for me it's just fun and I can take a pound of "weight gained" randomly in stride, knowing it's natural. Also since generally people lose about a pound or two a week... The ounces make me happy!

I definitely don't advise weighing every day if it is going to cause some sort of complex though.. and if that's the case for you then putting your scale away or getting rid of it altogether might be helpful. I just thought I'd share my thoughts. :flowerforyou:

i weigh myself every day. it allows me to track my progress more carefully and chart any fluctuations. I don't let it bother me if i'm up or down as long as i can see a general lowering trend on the graph. (yes i record it every day and graph it) it also allows me to see if i hit an upward trend and that i have to tweak either my menu or my workouts. nothing wrong with weighing yourself every day.

Just by luck another MFP friend was doing the same thing and she decided to take her scale and carry it away so I thought why not use this as a challege. So we decided that in one month we would weight in which is oct 31st. I still cant believe I went this long without weighing. But I found that it help freed me from the pressure and I had a real propose for keep going. Why not open a challege with someone in your friends list.

I don't see a problem with weighing whenever you want as long as you understand fluctuations are normal up and down.

Studies have shown that those who weigh every day lose weight easier and keep it off longer.
  • I have the days circled on our bathroom calendar and I weigh in on those days. I am tempted to do in between checks, but I am all about big shows of growth. Seeing a clean swipe in dirt, finishing the last page of a book, having a pair of jean be so big that you can fold them over. So I would rather wait to see 1lb, 2lb, or more missing that .5lb more often. It just doesn't feel like as big a victory.

No advice here; I weigh 3-4 times per day to see when the best time to weigh myself is. For me, it's actually in the afternoon when I get home from work before I have supper. I'm with the graph-inclined folks; I want to see my weight fluctuations over time, and even throughout the day.

Mind you, I don't let a 2.5 pound gain over the course of a day upset me. I have a strange digestive system gifted to me (I am convinced) by the same person who invented the Mousetrap board game.

Part of the other reason is that my eating choices and water drinking tend to vary greatly due to some health problems. I am also using the scale to help me find out when I retain water versus need to drink more.

For someone trying to abstain from the scale due to obsessiveness; make a certain day of the week your weigh-day, and put the scale in an obscure place until then. Leaving it on the bathroom floor so you can see it everytime you're in there does NOT help. Out of sight, out of mind.

Hide the &*! scale in a closet or somewhere and take your measurements with a measuring tape (you will see big changes in this as well)!!

I also weigh in every day.... and for the same reason. I love knowing all the details of the process, I even have graphs and tables on an excel spreadsheet.

I changed my weight in day to a Wednesday & am also trying to stop every day weighing.
I put mine under my bed but its like a little devil calling to me - I managed last week to only weigh once on the Wed.
I was down 3lbs but this week I've weighed Wed, Sat & this morning.
The problem is I was down on Wed & down Sat by another 1lb but this morning I was up the 1lb I thought I was down on Sat so I guess I really need to stay off the scales & only use once a week and hide it somewhere else  !!!!!
