This may sound stupid or naive, but as I havent lost major weight before I dont know.

I have lost 21lb and I'm planning to lose at least another 30. Will my belly actually go?? I have had four children, so I dont expect a six pack, but better than it is.

I know I wont be fat forever, but something tells me the gut may stay!

with that attitude the gut will never go. stay positive, and with hard work, dedication, and time, that belly will go the way of the dinosaurs... in a rocket ship to outerspace to live with l ron hubbard.
  • I have four kids also. I'm trying to lose 25 bls. So time will tell.... ( think the belly might be the last thing to go LOL) But, possible for sure!!!

^^^This is tru^^^ Honey, you have to have a positive attitude about this..I used to ALWAYS say I CAN'T DO THIS OR THAT or I WILL ALWAYS BE FAT!!! Well as soon as I got rid of that attitude and start thinking more positive about my new healthy journey, I lost 47 pounds and 28.7" total from my body!!! I had a HUGE stomach when I first started in MAY and now it's WAY SMALLER...YOU CAN DO THIS AND IT WILL GO AWAY!!!!

Genetics has a bit to do with where we as a species store our fat. The abdominal area is chock full of places for fat to be stored. However, like the previous posters stated, it can be done. Have you been measuring yourself? If you have, then great, if you haven't, then start. You will notice that as you lose weight, you will also lose inches. Do so ab work to get a firm underbelly, and you'll be amazed at the results. Even if you don't want a six pack, you can get an almost flat belly. You may even want to make that an NSV goal. Good luck.

I'm sure you can lose it with exercise.. I've managed to reduce mine and those muscles don't get used as much with me, after been in wheelchair 6 years.. my tummy was 48" at widest part last June.. its down to 37 " now and waist down to 33" .. I'm starting to get little curves!

I do Pilates Core exercises, they've been great for strengthening my back too and reducing back pain.

I can so relate! I have lost 30 pounds but I swear I have 20 pounds of fat hanging between my ribs and hips. UGH.

Diet has a lot to do with it - I have heard from trainers and read many places that it is what you eat that effects belly fat as much as exercise. Abs are made in the kitchen is a popular quote. You cannot spot train away stomach fat although core exercises will help tighten it up. Unfortunately if all the below are true it is not as simple as eating fewer calories than you burn.

Here are some interesting articles on the subject:

You can sculpt any part of your body that you want with a lot of hard work...switch things up and do some homework...I had to actually study my own body type....Keep going it'll work for you!!!
  • I agree most with Amycal on this one. Don't skip the workouts, but what you eat has a lot to do with it. Especially watch sugars and carbs as they are stored in the tummy area. There are books about this you can look up.
