I often take care of the needs of my whole family before myself. Craziness. I need to stick with my workouts this week and the next two before my tri. I'm going to work very hard at letting my family take some responsibility and help around the house as I do. What do you suggest to encourage that? I know I'm not alone in this....

Set a firm schedule. Let the family know that you are there for them, but that you need time for yourself. If an emergency comes up sure, be there for them, but tell them, for exampled, 6-8am is your run time, then 5-7pm is your work out time. And just let them know what you love them, and only need this for a few weeks, but you need to focus for the tri.

Beth, I believe that is a woman's trait. Most women I know all do the same thing, they are last to be taken care of even when sick. It's just what our hearts do us..

I'm guilty of putting myself on the bottom of the totem pole too! I'll have a set routine, everything will chug along great... then *splat* someone gets a cold, or someone needs help on a school project, or someone needs me to run their errands (how do I end up doing everything for everyone and nothing for myself?) I end up skipping my gym time for a week or two... then I feel like crap and have to reorganize. Totally feeling your frustration here!

The only thing I can say is to schedule your workouts into everyone's routine. If you work out from 4-5:30 (that's my work out time) then schedule everything else around that time. Homework is scheduled before that time.... dinner is scheduled after... errands are ran or appointments are made for other times or are handled by other people (husband, wife, mom, dad, whatever!)

Learn to say "No." I'm still working on this one myself ;)
