How many calories are you aiming to burn a day?

Just curious how many everyone is aiming to burn daily for weight loss. I have been trying to do an hour every day. Usually I will do all 5miles of Leslie Sansones walks w/resistance band. Or some times 3miles and some weight loss yoga or pilates or some ab work with a Crunch dvd. I usually burn btwn 300 and 600cals according to mfp(don't have a hrm yet). I am just wondering if that is enough..I also eat around 1200cals a day.

Your daily calorie burn should be different each day I think -- Because you should be changing up your work out and not doing the same thing daily. i.e. if you have a high cardio day - you're going to burn a lot of calories -- but if you do strength training, it's probably going to a lower calorie burning day, but it's vital you do this. Days I do kickboxing, I burn over 1000 calories. But days I have my other trainer and do more strength training and some cardio, it's more like 600-700 calories.0

For me, I aim at 1,000 cals burn for a 60 min session. With abs, I can not get that unless it is a curcuit of abs hitting various areas which I normally do after my intense workout.0

My goal is to burn no less than 2800 calories a week, which comes out to an average of 400 a day. I usually burn more than that, but that's my goal, my minimum.
I would recommend adding some strength training with heavy weights and a little more intense cardio if your body can handle it.
Also, if you're eating 1200 calories only, maybe you should start eating some or all of your exercise calories as well.0 -
I try to burn between 500 and 700 cals, but I'll always try for more if I have time. I try and eat around 1200 cals a day, and I do not eat the exercise cals back. For the past 6 weeks, then, I've been losing about 2.5 pounds a week, so I think I'm sticking with this.0

I burn 300-500
I don't know how people burn 800+ honeslty! Thats like a 9+ mile run for me0 -
I try to burn between 600 - 1000 each day, but then eat most of it back. Just depends on the day. On Sundays I'm grateful to burn 200 because I don't exercise, so walking at church and cooking meals are the only things that count.0

Gah, I guess I should be upping my workout then! I would love to burn 800cals an hour!0

it says I should burn 500 calories a day.
I want to burn more - but that sometimes doesn't work for me. I at least try to burn off my breakfast so I know I did something, but that is normally 170 calories. But now that I have a new workout idea I can burn some more which is what I am looking forward to. I have friends that burn a CRAP TON of calories a day and it just blows my mind! But then I realize if I blew all that I would have to eat so much to keep myself function-able0 -
I don't think its really that nessesary ^-^ I have been doing great with 300-500 3-4 times a week :]0

i strive for at least 1000. But since Im so heavy it takes more energy to pull and push my body than someone thin, therefor I burn more calories. I like 1000 but prefer 14-1500. That takes about 90 minutes of non stop cardio to get it0

Honestly for most people the point of doing cardio and strength training should not be to meet a specific goal of # of calories burned. You can manage calories and lose weight whether you do no exercise or burn off 5,000 cal per week. The point of doing cardio and strength training is to improve your body's overall health. Improving and possibly building muscle helps encourage a more efficient metabolism. Additionally, it helps ensure that you minimize the amount of muscle being lost while on a calorie deficit. Cardio helps improve your cardiovascular health and in particular the flow of blood to your muscles. This is effective in improving overall health and weight loss.
Honestly, if you're doing a solid 4 hours of cardio and strength training each week, and by solid I mean challenging intensity, you'll be doing fine. Calories burned is going to vary based on your body weight, intensity, type of workout, etc and really shouldn't be the goal of your workout.0 -
I usually work about a 1000 a day depending on the day. Like this weekend I played basketball intensely for 3 hour friday, saturday & sunday. MFP says that would be 1851 calories each time. I once wore my HRM for basketball and until it fell apart because basketball is too intense for a HRM(It didn't break, just came apart), it said I was burning like 750 or more calories(Average HR 75% of maximum) an hour.
I think you also can't discount that your metabolism is boosted for a while after lifting weight, of course you have to be realistic since it would be proportionate to the intensity of the lifting session.0
