The Great Chip and Salsa dilemma... and solution.

Greetings. I have been working diligently on finding healthier alternatives to some of my favorite foods. I have two treats that I absolutely love, but are not healthy for me.

The first one is obvious. Chips and Salsa. The salsa (calorie wise) isn't too bad, but who on earth can just stop at 10 chips. (150+ Calories.) In the days before my App-diet, I could have sat down and killed a half a bag of chips and salsa no problem.

My second favorite treat is raw Cauliflower. Now that is a very healthy threat, until I start dipping it into the Veggie Dips, Ranch Dips... etc. Suddenly, my healthy treat is bad for me.

My solution...

I scoop my salsa with my cauliflower. I was shocked to find out that the salsa buries the taste of the cauliflower, or more correctly, alters it so it has a "chippy" flavor. Suddenly a Chip and salsa snack of 10 chips and Salsa (150 Calories) is now Cauliflower and Salsa... and a measly 50 calories (160 grams of cauliflower and 2 tbsp of medium salsa). To make it even better, I find the Cauliflower and Salsa more filling (duh) and it sticks with me longer that the more traditional Chips and salsa.

Give it a try. You might like it.

I guess not eating chips would do it. Try dehydrated veg chips etc.
  • I love chips and salsa loaded with jalapenos!! But instead of regular store bought chips I bake a low fat, low carb, high fiber tortilla (71 calories) until crisp and use that as my "chip". But I may try the cauliflower just for a twist.
