Could a doctor really recommend this?? Dr. Oz's book

Hey all...for those of you who have read "You: On a Diet" by Dr. Oz. . .I have been trying to read this book. I read him recommend that if you are on a plateau, you should wear a nicotine patch and drink 2 cups of coffee every day until you start losing. I cannot believe a doctor would recommend nicotine as a temporary solution, but maybe I am just naive.
Have any of you read this book? Did it help you at all? I guess I just don't want to waste my time reading it if it is just full of solutions like these.

REALLY???? That sounds crazy crazy.0

Dr. Oz is an entertainer. I would disregard him as a reliable source for nutritional and/or dietary information, for your own good.0

I was a publicist for a while and was shocked how many doctors were willing to endorse ANYTHING they were paid for without even examining the product.
Just be cautious of anything you see on TV (including the news), hear on the radio or read, where a doctor recommends any product, exercise, supplement, cleanse etc. Very often they are paid to promote.0 -
Just because he is Oprah-approved with his own talk show doesn't mean the man knows everything. He is merely an entertainer, as stated upthread. Sure, he has his MD but no sane MD would dispense advice to a patient they never met in person.0

Oz is a moron from what I can tell. His daughter doesn't seem to bright, either...0

I would think this is really funny, but then there are people out there who will try it.0

I would barely classify him as a doctor. Take anything you read with a grain of salt.
So, don't read too much or you'll go over on your sodium! :laugh:0 -
That could be an extremely dangerous combo to suggest to anyone, especially if cardiac disease is a factor. Dr OZ, as an cardiac surgeon would be aware of that! Dr *kitten* may have been a better title, all things considered.0

I thought it was absolutely ludicrous to suggest such a possibly harmful solution. It made me not want to read the rest of his book. That's why I am asking if anyone has read it to see if there is any value to it at all.0

Less Bro, more science.
If it sounds ridiculous or confusing, it's likely wrong. Keep it simple.0 -
Dr. Oz is nice to look at, but that's about it.0

Doctor is such a relative term, really....0

Well, I can't defend Dr. Oz on this one. Have at 'im.0

What made you pick up the book in the first place?0 -
Quack! Quack! Where's Elmer Fudd when you need him?0

Just browsing I guess. I just really could not believe his recommendations. I know that TV docs aren't experts by ANY means, but to have such a blaringly dangerous recommendation was shocking to me.0 -
Dr. Oz is an *kitten*. He's also recommended people have gastric bypass if they are 30 lbs overweight.0

 that's crazy... cocaine also makes you burn some extra calories, but still, not good for you0

they (celebrity doctors) get sued all the time for nonsense like this...it doesn't seem to hurt their popularity though0 -

anything on that page will speed up your metabolism... I doubt that's what we want tho0 -
Are you serious????!!!! He actually put those words to paper? Wow! I can't believe he suggested nicotine. SMH. I would never, ever try that one!
If you've hit a plateau, cycle your calories up and down for a few days and switch up exercise.0 -

well this makes sense considering he is a surgeon ... the surgeons motto is cut to cure0
