So I was doing so good! I was eating really healthy with Kashi, Salads, Chicken and pork chop recipes with lots of veggies. I was working out everyday. I was training for my half marathon and had lost some weight. Then my half marathon came and I finished it. I took a week off to recover, but ever since that recovery week I find myself at a complete loss with motivation.
I used to get up every morning at 5:00am and workout, go to work at 8am home, make a nice healthy dinner, go to bed around 9pm and do it all over again. But now I'm finding it increasingly difficult to wake up at 5:00am to work out. I'm finding it difficult just to work out! And lately I've been on a horrible chocolate craving. And since it's Halloween, the candy is just staring me in the face everywhere so I give in. How do I get back my mojo!????
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

read my will power blog. do the exercise. if you don't get your mojo back after doing that, do it again with deeper reflection and more brutal honesty.

I can relate. I had burn out (which might be your situation, don't know) after training and competing in several figure shows.

I find that having an accountability buddy really helps big time.

i think once you get back in gear...you will find the mojo again. with darker mornings it's definitely tough (I feel in a funk a bit now too). What's that saying " a body in motion tends to stay in motion" or something like that. I think once you push back into your first few morning workouts, and realize how good you feel, it will keep happening and become easier.

    good luck!

Sign up for another half marathon that you have to train for, or something else that will make the running/working out seem worth it and like you are working towards something.

    Yep!
  • Give in to your craving sometimes! Don't deprive yourself of EVERYTHING unhealthy. Eat healthy whenever possible, so that you don't have to feel bad about having chocolate here and there. I have had a couple pieces of chocolate I think every day this week. But I also work out 6 days a week, and eat healthy salads for lunch, or grilled chicken and veggies for dinner. Don't try to be perfect, you will eventually let yourself down. As far as 5 am workouts?? I have never been an early bird, so I can't help you there. Maybe try evening workouts? I used to go right to the gym on my way home from work, then have a healthy dinner and have the rest of the evening to relax. Maybe just a change in your schedule will shake it up and make things feel fresh again!
Also, something as simple as adding new music to my Ipod gets me excited to workout again. Or buy yourself a new cute workout outfit? Works for me too :)

I'm in the same boat as you are. I was doing so well and after finishing the 30 Day Shred I have done zilch. My schedule has definitely been disrupted but I can't use that as an excuse. We are going to have to find a way to put the fire back into our health plan. Remember what motivated you in the first place................that may help you get back on track. I recently joined a challenge and that has helped a little. Maybe try a different workout or another goal since you've finished your last one. We can do it!!!!!!!!!

I think you have to put another goal in front of you. You worked hard to get to that 1/2 marathon, and that race sounds like it kept you going -- so sign up for something else, maybe a Warrior Dash, or some other challenge. Don't set a scale goal, but something else that motivates you.

And don't get discouraged -- lots of folks I know (including ME) are finding it hard this time of year. Maybe it's the fall / winter hibernation urge...?? :ohwell:

    Hang in there!

I think some of it may be that it is so much later in the day when the sun comes up. This is not my favorite time of year. I was getting up early and had my walk in by around 8. Now, I haven't been getting up till 7 or past. It is still dark. It is too cold out to walk in the AM. I've lost that motivation, so I ride my stationary bike later in the day. Just so you get at least 30 minutes of an alternative exercise in. How strong can you be with chocolate? Can you keep it out of your cabinets? Could you handle a small bag of M & M's and allow yourself 3 or 4 to let melt slowly in your mouth and savor the flavor? I love ice cream, but know I cannot have it in the freezer or it's gone. I allow myself one trip each week to get an ice cream cone and count the calories as part of my lunch. I am losing slowly, but I am losing. Perhaps you are expecting to lose it all at once. It is a behavior or lifestyle change you are making, learning to eat smaller portions, be more selective about desserts, eat more vegetables and fruit, and limiting red meat. I eat lots of chicken, turkey, fish, and broccoli, squash, tomatoes, etc. I have a microwave potato bag that I can make 2 medium size potatoes in about 7 minutes. It comes out fluffy and then I use the non-caloric spray stuff and 1 TBSP. no fat sour cream. The fiber, vitamin C, and potassium in potatoes is good for you. And if you are filling up on fibrous things, they stay with you longer and help cut down the cravings for things you don't need. Good luck on getting your MoJo back!

Wow! Thanks everyone for all of your input. I'm glad I'm not the only who struggles. I think I might try working out in the evenings after work and get a gym membership. I think the hardest part right now is waking up when it's still so dark out.
I also was looking at trying the Insanity work-outs. Maybe I'll start by maybe not working out every day but 4 days a week.
I don't know. I gotta do something! Thanks for your support!
