I make sure to stay under my sodium fat and carbs...my protein is usually over...it is ok to be over protein everyday? What are the lasting effects of eating a lot of protein?

To answer your question, protein is not going to hurt you, especially not at that amount. Secondly, you are not eating even 1000 calories a day. You might consider increasing that to 1200 calories a day, especially if you are working out.

I believe that protein is set very low on this site, I believe it as you're supposed to have 0.5-1grams per pound.

Protein digests slowly so keeps you fuller for longer nd repairs muscle tears from exercise.

Agree, you should have at least 1/2 to 1 gram of protein per pound of your body weight. Whey protein, egg and chicken are the best sources of protein. It will keep you full and will help with sugar cravings.

    I just noticed this.

You should be eating at least the original calories mfp gives you. Eating that little calories will result in a lot of muscle loss, which will turn you into a "skinny fat" so you will look flabby even though your scale weight is little. Loss of hair is also a side effect.

protein shakes help with that. There was a point my trainer had me at 180g of carbs and 180g of protein to incewase my weight. I just added shales, not to mention they help repair damaged muscles from working out.

I wasn't try to ride you for your caloric intake, just concerned for you.

Trust me my fiance yells at me about my eating everyday! He preaches how I went from 5000 calories a day to around 1000. He thinks it's crazy...I just don't want to fall back into bad habits like before. I am afraid of going back :(

Your primary source of protein should be coming from whey. Buy yourself a good cold processed, no artificial sweeteners whey protein. Whey is superior to any other protein. Here are some of the benefits of whey: Builds muscle, recovery, Immune support, weight management, digestive support, etc.... I have 3-4 smoothies a day with whey protein. I weigh 175 pounds and usually consume around 200-230 grams a day.

Anything to do with being in shape and working out...it seems they all use Whey?!? I work out a lot, so it should hopefully do something!

Oh i drink whey protein daily :] I drink it because it helps me hit my protein goal. Since I can't eat 130g of protein in meat and cheese xD

I just don't see how it is the very best option. What makes it so much better then chicken. beef, and pork?
(excluding fish because its yucky xD)

On the BV scale (Biological Value) for protein, from 1-100, 100 being the best. Whey is at 104, the highest value of all proteins. Your body absorbs more than what you consume. The only protein that is better than whey is human breast milk.
  • How can it be 104 on a scale of 1-100? xD I always thought eggs were the highest at 99

I don't think it really matters as long as you hit your macro goal tho

LOLWUT? Do you even listen to yourself?

And BV isn't the only indicator of protein quality.

Protein shakes should be used to supplement your regular food intake but it should not be your only source of protein. As Sunshine said, it can be used when you're not meeting your protein requirement. Natural food sources contain amino acids and vitamins/minerals that keep your body strong that whey isolate can't provide.

I never said whey should be your only source of protein. Whey proteins have amino acids, BCAA's and in some cases vitamins.

Are you suggesting that other sources of protein don't?
