I need to start getting back to lifting. I want to be able to beat my max bench from my jr year high school of 195lbs.

Where do I want to start? I need to really strengthen my quads, too.

Any and all advice is welcome.

Look into "Starting Strength" or "Stronglifts 5x5".

I should add. I'm not buying anything. No books, no DVDs, nothing. Where do I start in the gym?

bench press and squats. add in dead lifts and pull-ups (hopefully your gym has an assisted pull-up machine).

Talk to a competent trainer and/or scour the internet and read up on proper form. Form is critical for squats and deadlifts, and for any other exercise for that matter.

where you most likely started in hs... in gym class. if you don't want to read up on it outside of your gym time, you can probably find a class at your gym for strength / resistance training.
