Sooo I binged this weekend....

Hey, guys! I decided to binge this weekend & eat tons of food. Like I love food, but I pushed my limits with this. My whole idealogy was to get all the "fatness" out of me, so I could prepare to restrict myself from indulging. Well, the thing is I was 256lbs and had gone down to 243 in about a month or two. But, then after my 4 day eating spree, I gained 4lbs!! I was totally not expecting that. I thought maybe 2lbs max. So now, I'm seriously regretting it! I just need some motivation to get back on track.

I did the same thing recently and gained 3lbs. I'm really disappointed in myself and it's SO hard for me to get back on track. The only thing I can do it FORCE myself to workout and FORCE myself to pass on the bad foods.
I did NOT want to workout yesterday but I somehow found it in myself to go. If you can muster that up, it will just be easier every time until you get back on track. Same goes for food.0 -
Unless you ate 14,000 extra calories over the weekend you are probably retaining water. Junk food has that effect. I went away for a long weekend and ate a bunch of crap, gained 2 pounds. Started eating right again and drinking plenty of water, the 2 pounds was gone within days.0

I know how that is! The good thing is, usually most of that disappears after a few days of being on track. What helps me stay on track is remembering the goals I set for myself, my motivations (having Rihanna's body, lol!), & logging in consistently on MFP because seeing your friends staying on track & losing weight pushes you to do the same. ~

it's in the past...it's history. put it behind you. worry about today.
think about how good you felt when you lost the weight...probably not only health-wise but also you were probably pretty damn proud.
now...GO WORKOUT! have fun!

I unfortunately have this happen a LOT - I love Lays potato chips and have not found them to be kind to me other then flavor and crunch - and of course an ice cold glass of Pepsi really throws the calorie count to the wolves - I just try to remember each day is a new day and reboot my system. I didn't track my calories for the last few days and went up 2 pounds so I am right there with you0

I binged this weekend and last night and I was very unhappy with myself. I ate 1,082 alone last night for super. So ur not alone. Look at it like this, tomorrow is another day. Lets help each other .0

Drink 2 gallons of water today and weigh yourself again tomorrow. You won't be 4 lbs heavier.
Better make that one gallon!! (One full gallon of water is 128oz or 16 eight ounce servings so 2 gallons of water is 256oz or 32 eight ounce servings.)
I'd stay away from salt heavy and processed foods today. Drink your gallon of water and eat some celery or other fibrous veggies to try and kick start your body's elimination process. :-) You'll be fine by this time next week if you continue to get at least 8 eight ounce servings of water a day and go easy on the junky stuff! :-)0 -

You didn't gain 4 pounds of fat in one weekend, most of it is water and you'll lose it quickly if you watch your sodium, drink your water and eat at or below (not too far below!) your calorie goal and avoid the processed junk food that causes us to just crave more of the same.
Use this experience as a learning tool. Pigging out sounds like a good idea at the time, but it never is.0 -

Those 4 pounds will disappear quickly. Just get back on track. I do think that it is important to think about about how we ate, reflect on it, even journal about it but then move on! Get back on the weight loss train. You can totally do this!

Did the same yesterday. Could've been worse, but damn....
Water is good and cutting out sodium for a few days to levelize my water balance. Hard workouts are out right now as I have a neck injury right now. Walk walk walk walk walk....0 -

My doctor recently asked me, 'why do you overeat, or eat unplanned items/meals'? He is a weight loss specialist and told me to think about this before my next appointment with him in a month. So, although I haven't really binged, I do still sometimes eat unplanned items or portions that are larger than I should be eating. Why do we do it?????? Sometimes I think it's boredom, or fear, or insecurity. I know I am an emotional eater, like many others out there. The question I have is what emotions make you try to stuff them inside with food???? Maybe we can help each other determine the trigger FEELINGS that lead to binges, etc., etc....0

I've come to the conclusion that long-term deprivation from food splurges will cause a binge. I know I've done it myself a lot and it has derailed me for weeks, months, and even years during my life. Never again. Calorie cyling a/k/a zig-zagging your calories has been a wonderful answer to this problem. Search the discussion boards for more info on it or google for more info at other websites.
I'm not doing it "by the book" because some folks advocate charting specific high calorie days, low calorie days, etc. That doesn't work for me. I simply know that at least once a week I'm going to be at an event or a festivity or just feel like eating more than usual so this is what I do. Sometimes more than once a week. So I will eat below my calories for a few days and then, when the mood or situation strikes, allow myself to eat more food than normal and/or more calorie-dense food than normal. I input the food into my diary so I know where I stand. I have yet to go over my weekly calorie allowance while doing this yet I have enjoyed lasagna, cake, ice cream, pizza, cookies, cocktails, etc. And my weight loss has been good and steady.
Now, I don't mean total pig out until I'm stuffed. I don't eat the whole pizza but I will eat a couple of slices. I don't feel the need to gorge myself because I know that I can have these again sometime in the next 4-6 days if I want them.
It's the total calories consumed over time that matters, not the day-to-day calories. So eating under my weekly goal is fine and I can fiddle with the numbers on each individual day to keep within that weekly allotment without going into starvation mode. In fact, there is evidence that zig-zagging actually helps boost your metabolism. And this way, it's not a slip-up but, rather, a planned splurge. Heck, thin people splurge so why shouldn't we?0 -
I think you are taking the wrong approach to eating. Don't restrict yourself from the kinds of foods you like, just measure the portions and count the calories with MFP. You can't think of eating in terms of dieting/binging if you really want to be successful long term. I've lost 93 pounds over the last 19 months and the idea of 'dieting' has NEVER worked for me. I've been seeing a weight loss doctor and have learned a lot about what works and what doesn't. By thinking of food in terms of things you
"Can't have" you are setting yourself up for failure from the start....which then leads to the binge that you wish you hadn't gone on. In order to change your relationship with food you need to start thinking in terms of making NO food off limits. Right off the bat I learned that I could still have potato chips or a soda here and there as long as I counted those things into my daily totals and then I didn't feel 'deprived' of my favorite things. I eventually realized that I had to spend a lot more time at the gym to counterbalance calories from unhealthy foods so it became easier to start choosing healthier foods--especially when I could see visually on My fitness pal, how quickly the calories added up to my daily total when I made poor choices. Good luck with your goals, but go a little easier on yourself. Long term, permanent weight loss is a slow journey and it has to start with lifestyle changes and the first change I had to make was figuring out how to have a 'healthy' relationship with food rather than the old Love it/Hate it relationship most women have.0 -
I may be few years late but .. anyways, I usually plan my binges. So like birthdays and all that stuff. If I know that there's an upcoming event, I know I will binge but I don't myself go over +1 pound of fat rule. I may gain 5 pounds over that weekend but I know that 4 pounds are only water retention, I'm good. Cause my birthday is only once a year so I let myself to eat whatever the heck I want that weekend. And do not care about the calories or fat. Its my birthday, I do whatever I want. I gained few pounds? Fine! I'll work my *kitten* off later. If I'll have to live on celery,baby carrots and water the whole week - I will! But, I'll let myself enjoy those two days. It is so worth it guys!0
