Hey everyone! I have a question for you all about calories and exercise recordings. So I am on a 1300 calorie/day diet and am happy with that amount of calories. I would like to keep track of my exercise on here, but when I do it gives me more calories that it says I need to consume. I have been a serious athlete for many many years and know that you have to have a lot of calories to lose weight safely. However, when I eat the total calories it says I need after logging my exercise I lose absolutely nothing.
So my question to everyone is do I jsut ignore that it is telling me that I am eating too few calories after logging my exercise? Or what do I need to do?!? Thanks everyone!
Have a blessed and wonderful day!!

So let me be the first to say yes...and no

How are you coming up with your calorie burn numbers? There may be a margin of error. It's designed such that you eat your target calories, but that depends on your settings and calorie burn numbers being pretty accurate. Some people who do not fully trust their numbers aim to eat back half their logged exercise burn.
  • most days i eat less than it tells me. it says i should be having 1480 cals. but generally i have a little over a thousand - 1300. ive only gone over 1480 2 times since being back on my diet for almost 2 1/2 months. Also, it depends how many calories you burn off, if you burn 500+ then you should definitely eat back some of your calories. And if you have 1200-1300 calories a day, you will be fine. just ignore that saying you aren't eating enough.

I usually add back in half if I am in need of calories - ie I was already under my 1200 goal. So like last night I needed to add 400 calories in total after I went to the gym. Since it was 10pm and I was only going to be up for another hour or two I just had an after workout snack for 200 calories - 1 tbsp Peanut Butter & 1 glass of milk.

If I was already at or right near my 1200 I would probably skip eating the extra calories unless I was ravaged.

If you're not losing weight by eating back all of your exercise calories, try eating back just half of them.

additionally, if you are relying on MFP estimates for exercise calories burned, then eating back half of those is the way to go because MFP estimates are consistently 30-50% higher than what folks report using HRM for the same exercise. For me, the HRM vs. MFP varies by as much as 50% more, but on some things its only about 10% higher on MFP.

I limit to an absolute of 1800 calories, if I'm not exercising that day, I have to go lower as my goal is 1710. But I may only eat back 1-200 of these calories.
