I have been reading a lot of posts and comments and blogs about the extra pouch of skin left over from losing weight around your belly area and it has me concerned. Is it that bad? is it gonna be that bad? I mean people are talking about having it surgically removed. I dont have insurance or the money to do something like that. My boyfriend says he will love me no matter what and that a little extra skin is not gonna scare him away, but it scares me. A lot of the pictures i see of people who have had large weight loses dont have a large flap of skin. Please can anyone help me? Thanks

I've always had a "roll" of fat, although small. It's just the way my weight falls.
It's taken me forever, but I'm ok with it now. Now it's turning into more skin than fat, but still can be annoying at times. I've learned nice guys don't care about it and would rather you're confident. Trust me it's so much less stressful even on yourself if you're just not thinking about it... it'll take time, but if you get it, you'll get used to it.0 -
a little pouch i can deal with. imean im not going to stop trying to lose because of this but it does have me concerned. i mean people make it sound like the most disgusting thing possible. and to me surgery to fix it makes it a major thing. is it bad enough that it shows throught your clothes? or do you have to wear bigger clothes to cover it? just lookng for answers.0

I'm pretty certian if you do weight training alone with cardio and eating right it will keep things firmed up whiel you loss. I'm not positive on that but I think thats how it works0

You will have little bit of loose skin at the end of it all...I started with about 80 pounds to lose (very similar to your goal)...I have lost about 55 pounds. I am starting to see some loose skin, but it is not too bad at all. This is b/c I have lost my weight very gradually.....(I lost the 55 pounds in 7 1/2 months). After around 30 pounds loss, I started doing strength training, which helps me to tone....0

Nothing to be afraid of. Your body will do what it will do, and it will all be fine. Try to focus on how healthy and strong you feel in a fit body and let the vanity stuff go. Strong and healthy is sexy! I bet your guy will agree, with or withour extra skin!0

A lot of the people who have lost a lot of weight and don't have extra skin work out. That will help a ton.0

most times people get that "leftover" skin when they lose weight too fast.0

You could worry about it when/if it happens...how about that?0

Sometimes, this freaks me out too, but I think my only option is *shrug* I'll deal with that when I have it, if I have to. I have a floppy overhang belly (Thanks, darling children of mine), but since I'm not planning on wearing a bikini, and the only people that see me naked were happy with my body even at my highest weight, I'm not worried.0

I think the huge flaps of excess skin you hear about/read about, etc. are from people who have lost a huge amount in a short time via rather unnatural circumstances - like gastric bypass, Big Losers, etc. I had a large stomach when I was 76 pounds heavier and had overhang. That was pretty gross to start with. I've lost weight over almost 2 years. I still have some roll there but it really has gone done equally as the rest of my has. I work out, run, yoga, etc. it keeps the muscle firming up so it isn't disgusting. I hope that eventually it will completely go away as I continue to work on it. I'm a work in progress. But I think the scenario you are thinking of is from people who haven't lost weight in the usual manner. That is another reason from losing slowly - so you can keep the weight off but also, your skin will pretty much shrink along with your fat so it won't be a problem. Plus, as someone else said, would you rather be overweight and unfit or lose weight and have a little extra skin??0

I fully expect to still have an apron due to my two cesareans. My feeling is, which is worse, being thin with a flappy belly or this? In clothes, I can cover the flappy belly. Naked, it probably stills looks better than this. But there's always lingerie... :blushing:0

also alot of ppl were talking about their c-sections they've had and how there is scar tissue and its harder to work that muscle.. it worried me too but the benefits of losing weight and being healthy makes me not care as much0

Check out the success stories. Many people have lost an amazing amount of weight and no hanging skin. Some credits wearing a girdle to keep skin firm and preperation H to firm up skin. Good luck.0

It's looking like I won't have to deal with that, so I'm grateful. But if I were, I would absolutely get surgery. If you want to, you can get another job and save up for it. Just a thought. Good luck.0

Better to be honest and share what DOES happen to some, but see them in clothes? You likely won't see most of it, totally agree, fat and unhealthy with no loose skin? Or no longer fat with extra skin! Never know what's down the road for any of us, you might be able to have the surgery if needed/desired.
Certainly don't worry too much about it now as there's not a thing you can do about it as long as you're drinking plenty of water and dropping the weight in a healthy manner. Some people that have not had surgery have the loose skin after as well.. sometimes age can make a difference, sometimes not. How long you've been overweight and how overweight a person is can make a huge difference as well.
I think in the end each of our bodies is so unique it's a bit hard to generalize. Someone suggested saving money up as an option in case you need it for surgery .... if you don't you'll have money for something else.0
