Good morning everyone

iv been eating low carb for a little while now, but im noticing that my fat levels are increasing and most days im over on my allowance. i try to not cook using oils or butter and try and keep my meals quite clean but i find that a lot of protein rich foods are high in fat.

does anyone have any ideas of the sorts of low fat foods i can eat throughout the day? yesterday i had some cheese with my tuna and my fat went straight into the red! today i have eggs and again my fat is in the red, even with things like chicken and beef. is this something i should be quite concerned about? i set my fat to about 20%

  • if you get rid of carbs you have to replace them with something. Low fat is a bad idea. Fats are good for you, and don't make you fat

To add some protein with little fat, add beans and lentils (or other pulses) to meals. They also add fibre which helps you to feel full after meals.

From everything I've read, fat's ok. Dukan says no, but Atkins says yes. I fell off the wagon and have climbed back on, but am basically low carb now, rather than Dukan specifically. So I now have nuts, cheese, etc., but admit I do do the lower fat stuff - think the fat = bad indoctrination has stuck. If it's a choice, go fat over carb I reckon.

tuna is no fat and chicken for 200grams has 3 grams, just stick to that, and use spray oil, have egg whites not whole eggs. you can buy the frozen ones from coles and safeway. if i ate these foods all day i would have such a low fat intake

    ^^^ correct

your body has three sources of energy, carbs fat and protein, and if they are not burned any of these will be stored as fat. you can eat a zero fat diet and still get fat if you eat more calories than you burn off. ditto zero carb diet. And you can eat nothing but fat and lose weight if you burn more than you eat. however it's not healthy to cut entire food groups out of your diet as you'll be missing out on vital nutrients. fat is an essential nutrient and some vitamins are only found in fatty foods (these are called fat soluble vitamins) and some fats are essential, e.g. omega 3s, 6s etc. If you don't get enough healthy fat you will crave fatty foods. This is what wrecks many peoples diets. If anyone is constantly battling cravings for fatty foods then eating more healthy fat (e.g. fish oil, extra virgin olive oil, avocado etc) will help a lot. Cravings are your body's way of protecting you from malnutrition.

If you eat fewer carbs, then you will end up eating more fat (a diet of nothing but protein would not be healthy!), so long as you don't go over your calorie allowance for the day you'll still lose fat. Get a healthy balance of protein carbs and fat and don't go over your calorie allowance. I increased my goals for the amount of fat while reducing my goal for the number of carbs in order to keep the overall calories the same. Then I just make sure I eat healthy fats not the fried junk/trans fats kinds of foods.

Thanks guys, i was doing the Dukan but cutting out carbs totally doesnt suit my lifestyle so i found that LOW car does help me with my weight loss.

I love lal the foods that Joehccva71 listed below, and protein really does fill me up. i guess i wont be too worried then when my fat content is a little high as long as i know that its good food and not the takeaway deep fried stuff!

Take a deep breath, close your eyes and listen to Joe's advice..... he has done his homework and it works..... I was pretty nervous when I started doing some carb cycling and PURPOSELY raising my fat in order to meet basic macro recomendations........ I have been eating 50-100 grams of fat a day and still losing...
