question with jogging in place

As i've seen from doing math I burn the most calories by jogging in place with my routine... I don't really have the option nor am I ready to try and jog outdoors... I'm doing a combo of aerobics and jogging in place.. I started with like 30 seconds to a minute spurts of jogging in place and am now up to 3 minutes bursts of straight jogging... The slow way I'm bringing myself up to a long jogging routine does it sound the best way.. I'm pushing myself to go more everyday but not enough to leave me ready to collapse. I think I'm am doing the right thing but would like some comfirmation :)
Thanks
Kimmy

If this is what you are comfortable with and you are making progress then it ABSOLUTELY is the best thing for you to be doing!! Keep up the great job!!

    sounds good.

you should include some strength training to your routine though.

I can't handle outdoor running, walking doesn't give me enough burn, so I've taken up "wogging" - it's not walking, not jogging - somewhere in between. The key is to find a pace that you can maintain over a long period of time. If you can, invest in a cheap heart rate monitor. With that, you can determine what your aerobic threshold is - the point where you're really panting because your body can't get enough oxygen to use fat for energy and you're going on pure carbs. You'll want to stay below that, mostly, and exceed it only in short bursts to raise that level. You'll find your tolerance will raise quite rapidly at first - then it will level off. I'd be dead in the water without my HRM - I would have been working far too hard and probably would have quit because of the discomfort.

When I get further into my exercise journey I will incorporate some strength training but for now I'm just looking at burning some extra calories and getting into some better shape for now. I have strength muscles enough from my job for now and I also can't afford to increase my protien at this time which I would have to do more doing strength training...
Just making sure there wasn't really a faster way to get into jogging shape than I'm doing in a healthy fashion :)

i think this is a great idea! i've been trying to increase my jogging abilities and you've just given me a tool i can use to get my stamina up. i do jog, and i can go for minutes at a time, but i eventually get to that point where i'm winded and have to walk it off for a few minutes. i'm going to incorporate your idea into my regiment and see how it works. thanks!
