I sometimes wonder if losing weight and toning is worth it. What's the point if I'm going to gain 45 lbs like the first time I was pregnant? I'll have to do it all over again! I know I'm not supposed to gain that much but last time, hormones turned me into the binge monster...

Well, I'm pregnant with our 5th (7 weeks along, 6th pregnancy) and my goal with this one is to watch what I eat and be conscious about what I'm doing. Unlike the other 5 pregnancies, I plan on exercising throughout this one.
So far, I've got 4 lbs that I've been fluctuating with since finding out that we're expecting. I know a lot of that is early bloat, water retention and not fat. I go up 4 lbs, drop 2, drop another then go back up again; so I'm pretty much maintaining what I originally lost. Not counting any weight gain in this pregnancy here on MFP, since it's slightly skewed with growing another human being inside of me.
As for toning up, I'm so glad that I did before getting pregnant. I've noticed huge differences so far, my tummy is more toned as are my legs and arms. If all goes according to plan, then the weight I gain should strickly be baby related and come off soon after. This will be my 5th c-section, so I'll have to wait until 6-8 weeks after for the OK from my Doctor to start working my abs again; but I'm really thinking I did things right this time.
I'll let you know how that goes in about 7.5 months.0 -
You don't have to gain that much weight. Just make healthy choices one at a time. Pretend you are actually going to put the food into a babies mouth. Because that is essentially what you are doing, in a round about way. That will eliminate a lot of bad choices. 20 to 25 pounds is enough weight gain. You don't have to gain a lot of fat to have a baby. I think if you make better, more stable choices you might not get so hormonal. It a cyclical thing. Good luck.0

I acually lost weight with my pregnancies even with the triplets. It was all baby because I was focused on eating right. and my body used some of my lovely fat resources to keep the little ones well nourished.0

Thank you for your replies. It's true being fit before a pregnancy will probably encourage me not to binge or eat unhealthy stuff (stupid cravings)
I am not pregnant, in case anyone wonders. Not even trying actually. ;-)0 -
Well, I DON'T want any kids, but I'm going to answer this anyway -
Gaining weight is part of wanting kids and being pregnant.... *shrug* It's one of the *many* reasons I have NO desire to ever be pregnant.
However, being fit and at a good weight now will make your pregnancy easier and healthier. At least this is what I read all the time.0
