So last night jogging, I picked up a 4 legged friend who was jogging with me for about a half a block before I realized I had a partner. After I realized she was lost and not dangerous, I stopped jogging to see from a distance if she had tags. I didn’t know what to do! Just thinking what if this was my dog, what would I want “me” to do. She wandered across the street which I jumped out into the street to stop a car and realized I HAVE TO TAKE HER HOME (and find her parents of course). She didn’t have a tag and responded to “doggy” so I had her jog with me home. I got her in the back yard and we gave her treats and water. I immediately posted messages on facebook, craigslist and called all the authorities and planned on hanging flyers today if she wasn't "found". I sat in the backyard (very cold) and hugged her and said stupid random things about how she’d be found and how pretty she was because it was the only thing that made her stop crying (has to have a loving family how she was acting)… I sounded like a crazy person but oh well it made her happy! The police came and eventually animal control took her. A few minutes later I received a call from the police saying her owner called in and was on her way to claim her. "Doggy" was the sweetest thing. I am so glad that I found her because she might have been hit by a car or just adopted by someone never to find her way home. She was a precious little girl, I hope to see her on one of my jogs or dog walks and to tell her “mom” that she was cared for before being sent to the shelter. I hope that if anyone ever has this experience that they try to find the parents, things happen where tags fall off and dogs get loose and it's not always the pet parents fault. I hope she got extra hugs and treats last night! She definitely looked well cared for so I'm sure it was just a random event that at least went full circle :-) Just a little story for today.. and I hope it affects someone where they help another lost dog return to their loving family :-)

Thats so sweet. We actually had some rotts follow a neighbor home from a walk this summer and I cared for them for almost 6 hours and took them on three walks in the 110 heat we had that day trying to find their home. They were so sweet and if we didn't find their home, I was wanting to keep one of them because he was just too cute. I named them Romeo and Juliet while they were in my care. Finally found their owner and found out the reason why "Romeo" really responded to the name I gave him is because his name was Moe.

    Thanks for sharing your story!

I do that all the time. I'm a sucker for an animal on the side of the road. I always have treats and a lead in my car, lol. It's weird but i "rescue" at least 1 dog a month!!

I often have that issue too. The last dog was almost big enough to ride! When the police officer came, he did not want "Chobani" in HIS patrol car. So I walked her to the shelter 3 blocks from my house. Chobani seemed appropriate since that was my reward waiting when I got home from my 2house hour walk.

hehe thanks, it's good to hear that there are others like me out there, especially if one of my little guys gets loose I'd be devastated if I couldnt find them! My friend's dog ran away last year and someone "adopted" him instead of looking for the owner and after 3 days of just searching and crying, she was lucky enough to find the woman and after much hassle she got him back. You just don't know what those little buggers mean to you until you fall in love with one (or more!)
