I joined MFP over two years ago with the intention of losing weight in order to increase my chances at conceiving my first child. Well, life happened and I had to quit for a long while. I was diagnosed with PCOS eight years ago which has contributed to both my infertility and my weight gain. Just recently I was diagnosed with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, high cholesterol and high triglycerides. After a battle of wills with the clinic doctor over trying alternatives to medication, I have become empowered and determined. She flat out told me that I couldn't improve my numbers without medication. A statement that lead my husband to believe that she was calling me lazy. So, the war has begun. I have returned to MFP because the little time I was on it before, I felt confident that I could actually succeed. I found a lot of support and helpful tips on the message boards and encouragement. I want to succeed and I know being part of such a wonderful community full of people just like me will help lead me to victory. So, hello again MFP community! We can and will defeat the bulge for good!!!

It drives me crazy that doctor's will choose to push medications without addressing the root of the cause of these diseases. Most of your recent health issues can absolutely be controlled, if not obliterated, by a healthy diet and excessive exercise. Welcome back and i wish you much success!0

My best friend of more than 16 years has a lot of your same issues/concerns... I have watched her struggle with not being able to conceive and one of the reasons is weight I am super happy to report that she has been on the weight loss wagon for more than 3 months and lost just over 40# so far...started around 275 or so??? My progress has been slower, but still progressing so that is all I ask! You are right that this site is an amazing place to find support and friends that care and are there to help you in your journey! Hang in there and good luck!!!0

Wow! Thanks everyone! Thank you for sharing your stories and for your encouragement!! I have until December 7th (my next appointment) to make some progress. I'm on a low fat/high fiber diet and am walking everyday. I read an article that walking 20 -40 minutes at a reasonably brisk pace five times a week could lower cholesterol by 8% after 18 weeks. Well, I'm walking 40 minutes seven days a week (weather permitting). If it's raining, I use a manual powered treadmill for 30 minutes. So far, I've lost a pound and gained it back but, I'm attributing it to increased muscle mass. I'm sure I'll see some number changes this week. Weigh in is on Friday! Anyway, thanks again ladies! Good luck to all of you!0
