I was told that going to the gym after having a big breakfast with more carbs & as well protein, you burn off the carbs first..? And it's better to work out before breakfast? I'm not quite sure if this is true, but on week days I am only able to work out on my hour lunch breaks. I usually have breakfast around 8-830AM and go to the gym by 12pm. I'm trying to switch it up and eat a bigger calorie breakfast with more carbs & protein so I don't crave as much carbs later on.. for some reason I crave complex carbs alot, and i'm trying to stick to protein & more carbs for breakfast, protein & veggies / fruits for lunch.. and protein & veggies for dinner.
Any responses are appreciated, thanks!

As far as I know the only factor that should govern how you arrange your food intake surrounding your workouts is how you're going to feel during and afterwards.
I can't eat a big meal before. It's bad news. I have a little something, and then I have large meal afterward because I'm really hungry, but it all fits into my goals.0 -
It depends on what heart rate zone you're working out in. If you're above your anaerobic threshhold, you're burning sugar and it will make you crave more sugar. I speak from experience - we had my AT wrong, and I was working out harder than I needed and was craving carbs all the time. Now that it's set right (through a cardio point test at the Lifetime Fitness), I find the cravings are under control...
In general having protein will give your body plenty of energy to work with, it just takes longer for it to be available to your system.0 -
I myself, don't eat a large breakfast...I don't wanna feel like a bloated mess while working out...
I try and get a protein/carb..
I have an apple/pb
whole wheat toast /pb
Fruit/nuts
yogurt
egg/whole wheat toast
After I have usually a large 2-3 egg veggie omelette!! Love those!! But that's for breakfast
When I do my afternoon workouts:
I have
nuts
whole wheat bread/pb
mountain trail mix
and after i have my protein shake within 30min of working out...
Hope this helps...
