Hey to all beautiful people of MFP, I've been wondering if anyone of you bought additional stuff to help on your weight loss or toning/shaping device or tools (e.g. slimming belts and etc...)? Or you just do it purely with diet and exercise?

    diet and exercise
  • So far, just diet and exercise. I've bought a few workout DVDs and a hula hoop (which I still can't do!), but no specialised equipment or anything.

Oh, and a treadmill, but I bought that months before I started losing weight and haven't used it much since I got it. I will now that the weather is starting to cool off, though!
  • Just exercise :)

Purchasing equipment is a personal choice to be honest...

Ive been able to lose the weight with dietary changes (doctors guiding me) and with all the extra movement I get at work, the weight is just melting off.... but, thats working for me.

You would need to find what works best for you because lets face it - you arent me and Im not you! LOL!!!

Be careful before you waste money on stuff - definitely need to ask yourself how dedicated you are to get the money's worth out of exercise gear...

I take Adipex. I was on it previously and loved it, then stopped when I couldn't afford it anymore, and have been back on it for one week now. A lot of people (probably most) aren't a fan of diet pills, and I used to be one of them. I had a 'pride' thing about eating healthy and exercising and felt like anyone who turned to pills or surgeries was "cheating" and didn't deserve it as much as I did. But, as a mom of three, with a split schedule during the week, I became so sluggish and unmotivated that dieting and exercising just weren't going to happen. I'd set my alarm for 4am so I could use the treadmill just like I used to be able to do quite easily, and when that alarm went off I was just so tired that I'd talk myself out of it every time. And the tiredness led to irritability and an overall negative sense of being, that was reflected in my binging on fast food and utter disregard for the healthy food that I knew I should have been eating. Adipex gives me energy and definitely curbs my appetite. At first there were some side effects (clenching my jaw, jitters) but now I just feel like a more energetic version of myself and I'm back on track. Otherwise I'd still be gaining 10lbs a month like I was before I got back on it.

Diet and exercise. The only thing I bough were resistance bands. I think all that other stuff is just gimmicks. The only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. Sounds simple but is NOT. Lots of work.
  • I bought dumbbells and a step. I do both while watching TV at night. As for supplements/gimmicks... I did have a full blood workup done when I first started and we discovered that my thyroid was lazy so I'm taking synthoid. It's supposed to help. Honestly I haven't noticed a big difference.

I volunteered for that experiment the government was doing in the 50's where they inject you with some fluids and I became as big and strong as Captain America. lol

All kidding aside its mostly diet and exercise as well as Protein shakes. I am not sure if its the same for woman but I have read that you should ingest 1gram of protein for every 1lb you weigh. Also if your calorie count for the day is ie 1500 calories only take 1500 calories even after exercise. Though you may have burned 800 or 1000 calories with exercise do not eat back your calories. Stay within your daily total amount.

I can't say for sure if the Adipex itself has made me lose weight, but the added energy and the decreased appetite that it gives me are the reason I've been able to exercise and eat better. But it is pricey. I don't know how much insurance would pay, but I buy it with cash and one month's supply is $100. The only way I could afford it was to agree to stop eating out at restaurants and drive-thru's completely.

I used to diet but most of them never worked for me. When it did work I would put the weight back on so instead I changed my eating habits. What works for me is first eating within a half hour from the time I wake up. It gets my heart rate up, starts my digestive system going and brings up my metabolism. I then try to eat every two hours. Breakfast 6am Snack 9 am Lunch 12 pm Snack 3 pm Dinner 6 pm Snack 9 pm. I try to stay up at least 2 hours after the last time I eat. I also eat smaller portions and I eat better. I have so far given up soda. I will figure out next what to give up. I'm not sure who this will or won't work for but it works for me. Best bet is to experiment and go with what is healthiest and most productive. In my opinion the number one thing for me is my faith in God. It gives me strength and motivates me. GOD BLESS!!

    TIP TO REDUCE WEIGHT
First turn your head to the right and then turn it to the left. Repeat this exercise everytime you are offered something to eat.

    That!

    cheap and convenient

    :flowerforyou:

PS: diet and a little bit of exercise to be healthy, not to burn fat

Then maybe *that* is the real reason...?

Growing obesity rates are big news, and that makes weight loss products a big market. It seems that everyone has a new diet, pill, powder, or drink that will take off the pounds. Most often, though, the only weight you lose is from your wallet. But there is something that really works, in just 2 steps:

    Eat healthy
    Get active
The National Weight Control Registry did a study of more than 5,000 people who lost more than 30 pounds and kept it off for more than a year. Almost all of them had those 2 steps in common.

But how can you work those steps into your already busy life? Start with small changes, and stick with them until they become part of your routine. Then add more small changes. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

    To eat healthy:

    Eat breakfast each day.
Keep an eye on your food portions.
Keep track of what you eat and when.
Eat mostly fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat protein and dairy.
    To get active:

Find ways to be more active in what you do every day.
Get active with a friend or a group.
Start a walking routine during breaks or lunch.
    Just move your body more.
Small changes add up. It really works.

Lol that's definitely a big part of the 'eating healthier' part. But without the Adipex, I wouldn't have the decreased appetite, so without it I'd still definitely be stopping by a fast food place 1-2 times a day. It was getting sooooo out of control. I was even telling myself sometimes on the way that I wasn't hungry and didn't need any food, but I'd go right up to BK or wherever and get some huge burger. Was killing me. So reinvesting that money into the Adipex was a double bonus. Now I pass by those places without a second thought....food just doesn't cross my mind.

I bought Wii and Wii Fit to build up what I could do slowly, then added other games now I can manage more and have passive trainer bike which was most expensive thing, it has motor to pedal legs for me.. about half an hour is about 316 cals and then can do another 200 on wii to get my 500 cal deficit.

Changing my diet has helped to gluten free/low carb... I'm starting to get a regular small weight loss each month now.

I'm sorry and I truly don't mean to offend by this, but you make it sound like some tyrannical force of nature was holding a gun to your head and forcing you to eat fast food everyday. I understand time constraints and lethargy and every other excuse out there, but that doesn't make it not an excuse. Even the choice of the pronoun "it" in your sentence "It was getting sooooo out of control" vs just saying "I" and owning that you made a mistake.

It sounds like Adipex is just curing the symptoms of what you are dealing with, but not the cause. Are you going to take Adipex forever? Are you never going to let food cross your mind? This saddens me because if you worked through your relationship and prioritization with food, perhaps it could become something you actually like... I know it's not "easy" but........

Again, I'm not trying to be all up in your biz, even though it seems like I am. Wish you the best of luck, of course, on your journey.
